Australia vs England - The Ashes 2021/22

Some of us can not access that story Sooz.

Warne likes to run the show.. needs his ego massaged. Is almost always bias towards things Victorian. Tasmania deserved to host its first ever Ashes Test.. so live with it Shane.
Unfortunately Victorians are the most one eyed of all Australians.

Not many are as one eyed as those south of the Murray.

Shane Warne slams reports Hobart won the fifth Ashes Test: ‘No one turned up’

It's the right call, share the games around rather than chase the dollar. It gives Tasmanian fans a chance to show up for a test match as they don't get many often, the last one they had was in 2016 I believe. Hopefully the Tasmanian fans will show up in large numbers for the game.

It wasn't a bad call actually.
Resting the older brigade and playing the youngsters is actually a good idea.
England need to try a few things.
Would love to see Joe Root open the batting for them and Rory Burns being dropped down the order just so he can find his feet.

England were somewhat forced into resting Anderson as he wasn't quite right for the game and they opted to take no risks on his fitness. Leaving out Broad was the wrong call in my opinion and England could have relied on Root's part-time off-spin as an alternative option rather than play Leach.

If fit, Anderson will play the second test and Broad will come into calculations. The question is whether England decide to play a spinner, does Broad replace Leach or do they opt for Bess instead or perhaps give Leach a reprieve? Stokes' fitness is another question mark over their side as well as he provides a good seam option and middle order stability.

Brilliant win Baggy Greens.👏👏👏👏👏

Precisely what we did LJ. Green removing Root was the key. Cut the root and the tree will die.. please excuse the pun.

Stokes may miss Adelaide while Warner has badly bruised ribs and may not play either. So who comes in? Street scored a century in the A match. Khawaja failed both innings. Hunt got two starts for 70 runs plus is averaging FC @48 this season/ @39 career.

We are now hearing that the reason Josh Hazlewood did not bowl for 40 overs yesterday was because CA wanted to manage his workload due to a crack on the ribs he suffered when batting. Haze is a vital player in pink ball matches ..took an incredible 5/8 in his last Adelaide pinkie which drove India's embarrassing 39 all out..

The first session was always going to be massive in the context of the game. Malan fell early as did Root with England still in deficit, the rest also followed relatively cheaply in the end as England could only muster up a lead of 19. Root was caught behind again nibbling outside the off stump too.

Certainly some injury clouds for both sides heading into the second test in Adelaide. Warner has bruised ribs and is in doubt as is Hazlewood who also has some injury concerns. You'd have to think that one of Henry Hunt or Bryce Street would be favourite to replace Warner if he cannot take his place in the side for the second test as a like-for-like replacement while either Jhye Richardson or Michael Neser would be the frontrunners for Hazlewood's position in the side.

For England, Stokes' has a lower leg complaint and would be in doubt while there are question marks over Jack Leach's tenure in the side given his performance in Australia's first innings. With Adelaide being a day/night test, does Leach hold his place or does Dom Bess come into the team as a like for like replacement? Or does England abandon the specialist spinning option altogether and bring Stuart Broad back into the team? Some fascinating team selection decisions ahead for both sides.

Warne is a one-eyed Victorian and clearly wants the game at the MCG. Playing the game in Hobart is the right call in my opinion, shares the game around rather than chasing the dollar.

In terms of the Second XI game at the moment, Australia "A" reached 4d/349 in their second innings against England Lions. Bryce Street scored an undefeated 119 not out, Nic Maddinson made 71 while Mitch Marsh smashed 60 not out from just 27 balls, including 7 sixes.

In reply, the Lions are 3/136 chasing 460 for victory. James Bracey leads the way for the Lions with 57 not out while Scott Boland, Michael Neser and Mark Steketee have a wicket each for Australia "A" with the final day to take place tomorrow. The forecast for tomorrow is good so we should get a full day's play in if required.

This may pan out as either a quick wipeout of England by lunch or a intriquing battle to stumps. Looking forward to it.

The three Aussie A veteran bowlers are struggling to dismiss the Lions. Neser played in this match why didn't Jhye Richardson or one or two other of our next gen bowlers. Like to have seen left armer Joel Paris picked here too now he is fit. This all medium fast r/arm attack lacks balance imo.

An hour ago it looked like the England Lions would bat out a draw.. but the A spinners were having none of it. Hunt takes a reflex catch off a Swepson leggie and our second stringers pull off a thrilling win. Pity this is not a three match series, like in the past.

It would be good if it was although that would mean a number of players not playing Big Bash.

Hazelwood out of the second test with a side strain, his replacement will either be Jhye Richardson or Michael Neser at this stage.

Dont you find CA odd. Why wasn't JH's replacement named immediately. Surely Richardson and Neser need not be on tenderhooks awaiting the CA decision instead one of the two should be in full Test prep mode now. The match is on Thursday????
Also have you heard whether Warner is in or out. I've not read anything.

I for one would prefer they were playing red ball in Australia's second best team against the old enemy. Those with BBL contracts leave the squad and bring in some new faces that are not.

Very interesting stat re the best pink ball Test bats and bowlers.

Top five batsmen:
David Warner (Australia):
534 runs, Matches 5, 100s 1, HS 335*
Azhar Ali (Pakistan): 474 runs, Matches 4, 100s 1, 50s 2; HS 302*
Steve Smith (Australia): 441 runs, Matches 5, 100s 1, 50s 3; HS 130
Asad Shafiq (Pakistan): 401 runs, Matches 4, 100s 2, 50s 2; HS 137
Usman Khawaja (Australia): 307 runs, Matches 4, 100s 1, 50s 2; HS 145
Top five bowlers:
Mitchell Starc (Australia):
33 wickets, Matches 6, best bowling 6/66
Josh Hazlewood (Australia): 25 wickets, Matches 5, best bowling 6/70
Nathan Lyon (Australia): 22 wickets, Matches 6, best bowling 5/69
Yasir Shah (Pakistan): 18 wickets, Matches 4, best bowling 6/184
Trent Boult (New Zealand): 16 wickets, Matches 2, best bowling 6/3

Josh Hazelwood has a side strain and is out.

David Warner's up for a test as he's got bruised ribs from being hit there whilst batting.

Who are your preferred opener. The aggressive guy that can take the game away from a captain, like a Warner or Hayden or the more circumspect guy that uses patience and application to score his runs.. say a Boycott or Lawry. Either one can win you games. The ideal opening pair would be one of each of those types of batsmen imo.

Have heard that Ben Stokes is actually ok and has overcome his corked knee
Hazlewood and Stokes gone would have been a fair loss. Haze has this injury most likely because he has not tested his body with a red ball workout for many months.. that is say 20 plus overs in a day.
