Barclay Shield 2013/2014

There are a few captains and big fish under performing. Squeak will kick it off with a couple of obvious nominations. Jarred Williams & Mitch Johnson. Great year fellas. Sqqquuuuuuueeeeeaaaaaaakkkkkkkkkkkkkk!

Pretty harsh on Johnson. Tough gig to be Captain of the 1st XI at his age. Especially with the side in serious decline. I think they overloaded him, particularly given their list.

If he were batting in a strong batting side he'd make a lot more runs. Its unfair to expect him to dominate, at his age, with his experience, within a batting line up prone to collapse.

Look at Zull, he did his best batting in the side when there were big names around him.

Don't know what the answer for Plenty is. They're still producing talented cricketers, maybe that's half the problem? Guys like Banthorpe, Villani and Abbatangelo have all played Prem 1s this year. Plus any I might have missed, I don't think they'll want to go down though. It's too hard to get back up.

You cannot begrudge Mitch for taking on the Captains role up at Plenty, it would be something that most kids his age would love to do. I personally believe that it is too huge risk to have a captain and or coach that is under 25. They have so much more growing up and maturing not only as cricketers, but people, before they should be leading like that. Don't get me wrong, there are always exceptions to the rule, but Mitch should have been given the opportunity to first grow as a player and be successful in his own right before taking the reigns of any club.

In saying that, you don't know what options they had at their disposal. But I will point out that their captain last year was rumoured to of been "moved on", around christmas time last year and the said captain ended up getting them to a Grand Final.

Seeing the names of Hubber (7 Games), Pavey (2) and Love (1) are not great signs that they've had to get the old boys back in to help them save relegation. It shows the calibre of the above 3 to come back to help their club when in need, but they can't keep doing that every year. You don't want to see any club struggle like this, hopefully they can get things sorted up there at Plenty park.

That sounds to squeak like your nomination is the plenty cricket club!

If you want to have mature conversation with other posters on here, then go for it. But if you want to continue to get on here, talking rubbish and trying to pot blokes/clubs constantly, whilst making this site less enjoyable to read for everyone, then i'll give you another month or two spell on the side again, because I am sure that everyone on here is sick of your posting.

How is that rubbish. It's a legitimate topic. Who's under the pump from a sh/t season?

Because everyone on here is sick of your negative attitude with your posts, constantly talking dribble for the sake of it, the immature "sqeeeeeeek" crap, the constant potting of people. How about you discuss who are some of the better contributors this season, or some of the surprise packets in the runs or wicket categories.

Hahahahahahahaha what about the year Shannon Malone is having. Can anyone think of a better year.

Malone having a great year. 442 runs in 9 hits. 27 wickets for 407.
Still a long way shy of Terry Keays at Bundoora in 01/02.
61 wickets 11.4, 466 runs at 47. & Premiers.

I am not sure that anyone will ever beat that season. There are a few stand out years with the bat and ball (See below), but not many like that where a player has contributed with both.

Below are guys who made over 600 runs in a season or took over 40 wickets in a season, or who have had brilliant seasons with both. Sorry if i have missed some, but obviusly mycricket doesn't go back that far, nor am i going through ever single stat.

Baker's 99/2000 (I think, will double check that) season was a blinder too.

99 wickets at ************ all and a few runs to boot - Like you said, MyCricket doesn't go back that far so can't give exact figures.

Mark Reid would also figure in the above stats if MC dated back that far and were accurate. 48 wickets at 10.5 is the best I can find for him.

RE: The tragic incident involving Luke Batty from a few nights ago, and the black armband comments:

I know that the discussion was raised with good intentions, but it ended up into something that was fairly ordinary. Out of respect to the Batty family and all those effected by the tragedy, I have deleted all comments made. Any further comments on it will be deleted, and the poster will be banned for a significant period of time.

If anyone hears that the DVCA have made an official ruling on the wearing of black arm bands, please PM me and I will post it on here for all to see.

RIP Luke.

Don't know about the runs (even in the season he made tons in both the semi and the grand final), but at a conservative effort Peter Barnett would have topped that wickets tally at least 12 or 15 times, and almost always at an average under 10.
