City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 2010/11

Merl,
Even an old codger like me could find junior rep team details on Congress site - hey, they are under "CMCA Rep Sides"!
Have been on there for a few weeks. Even have score results updated very efficiently under Round Results - Rep/Carnival Teams.

Have a happy weekend.

Positive Merl would love to get the dog and grandchild out for a stroll but winikipop just where are the rep games being played?
I did hear a rumour the Phil Arnold Shield was being played at Uncle Mick oval but alas couldn't find anything jumping out at me on the famous website.

Quite the contrary Merl. The CMCA actually has a specific tab on their website for this very such thing I found it most helpful. Other information can be found on ‘My Cricket’

While at time we are quick to put the boots in (some more than others) well done to the CMCA on their efforts to keep us informed about the various rep teams and their progress.

Old Bill and Chooka,

Thanks for the positive vibes unfortuinately the stereo typed Merl was looking on the main page head lines where one expects to see such things but didn't realise the Congress had got into the 21st century and were actually giving joe public some info.

Anyway I have the info and so i don't get 50 lines from Jimmy I must keep repeating I must be positive.

Speaking of being positive a lady on a park bench told me the Clocker nought thimbles had a bit work to do after only making 130 odd against the billionaires at the lightning fast billionaire park today.I await confirmation via the usually reliable John Hallidays post.

Merl over and out

The lady tells no lies, Merl. The gold caps were left to rue dropped catches, but not before the silent one chopped one back onto his stumps for another failure.
Washington Park were impressive today. Batting is solid and a good variety with their bowling attack. Some exceptional catching today as well. Hard to see them getting beat - although they do have some tough games to come. Our boys unfortunately aren't up to it this year. It's been an extremely challenging season both on and off the park. Hopefully we can pinch a win next week.

Afternoon All,

Uncle I never said she was fat just that the Clocker Nought Thimbles were in and and now in big trouble tumbling out of the four what a great sight I dare say that is something very positive for old Merl and the rest of the comp.Maybe the J............ word can finally be put to bed.Having said that with their pathetic draw they could scramble back into the four.

Anyway let's have a look at a positive full bottle.

Slim's mob put up a great fight only to bogey the final couple of overs where the golfers young guns out lasted the bricker young guns.

The Royals with the train robber getting up a full steam and making runs at last out lasted the cowboys who just run out of bullets in the end.I must compliment the cowboys on the very professional way they handled the JGG return to the toxic oval as mentioned on Jimmy's radio show there should be more cooperation when a failed buy wants to return home.Well done cowboys. Also Judge as good as you are a biy of a net session may have had you scoring more than your Donald maybe Merl should give you a ring with a bit of advice!!!

Peter Parker's gone missing and so have his spiders and I hope he is not relying on them for his webs to climb on.The french cricket playing burgermeisters mob have been the quiet achievers even more quiet than the sooky la la has been on the BCF.

Just how they will go with the nomad May escorting the Ashes back home remaims to be seen. But for neither side to crack either a half ton or a ton collectively is nearly a longy first!!!!

The match of the season what a fizzer as the Billionaires gave the Clocker Nought thimbles a mother and father of a hiding and the man for the Eureka Stockade kept a few tricks up his sleeve as the thimbles just rolled over and died.
On a positive note the child made another duck but as he is a big game player I have put him down to top score in the Granny!!!!

Merl's beach boys quietly stroll along after dispatching of Brude's mob who must have been distracted down at white Pointer park!!After being the early season pace setters they have fallen back to the pack and will struggle to see any finals action in March!!

The Highway Pretenders now re badged as the Polar Bears has a rare win at the oasis with the return of the JGG an immediate success that it felt like he had never left home. Our very own B made sure they didn't have things all their own way as he blasted out of the blocks with the oasis Bott in tandem but their electric start was soon all over as the pretenders are now strongly becoming contenders!!!!

In the Bluff Rd Cup

The Billionaires gave the clocker Nought Thimbles a bigger touch up than they did to their ones.Old man Clive Dickson who I remember when he was a boy in short pants got a six for as they crumbled for even less than their ones.At this stage Merl thought he was dreaming and gone to the big place in the sky!!!!!

Steve Worker came back from the dead as exclusively wrongly reported on the BCF mid week and my old favourite the oasisless Bott got 32 odd a couple of wickets and still survived the conditions at Toxic Park as the westars got past the pretender twos.

Uncle Mick witnessed first hand as Wallet Park unleashed on the hapless Highett West as they marched to the top of the Bluff Rd ladder.

The pathetic purple & golds only tipped by former player Jimmy gave the party boys reason to hit the bar early when the Bell tolled with 4 for 6.Merl will need to look into a re badging for the PP&G.

Merl's own Cluden did what everyone else does and beat the Royal court jesters nothing new!!

Merl's other very own Chelsea Heights had the strange feeling of defeat for the first time when the sword's mob got up off the carpet to deliver a knockout blow.Brad Lockhart put them in a great position to win but with Ezard only bowling a couple of overs did that dodgy hammy go again and old man Lockhart was not at his miserely best going for a half ton which is very unusual. You learn more from a defeat than a win so I expect my boys from the Heights to bounce back and be in the thick of the September action.

Bobby Dazzler

Only Jimmy and Merl bothered to tip in the BD so couldn't give a stuff reviewing it and when my old guestbook buddy Army re surfaces he or someone else can give you a run down

With Jimmy starting to surge and the Oasisless Bott always a strong finisher and The Mentalist already knowing the results Merl will need to be on his game to keep his season long lead.

Merl over and out

Afternoon All,

Uncle I never said she was fat

Steve Worker came back from the dead as exclusively wrongly reported on the BCF mid week and my old favourite the oasisless Bott got 32 odd a couple of wickets and still survived the conditions at Toxic Park as the westars got past the pretender twos

Merl

Merl - the mail on Worker was correct. Confirmed by their 3rds players who were playing on Highett West #2 and weren't sure why he was playing. And there was no mention of a fat lady in my post, however she might've been singing around the time you had your rendezvous on the park bench.

They are like recovering alcoholics, occasionally falling off the wagon and reverting to their irresponsible batting collapses, but I suspect that they have detoxed themselves over XMAS and will be ready to take on a surprising Centrals.Or have they? Based on the Menatalist support for the grumpy old man I fear they may have over indulged. Time will tell.

Looks like Carnegie South had the same minder that was allegedly looking after Fev in Brisbane. Tuesday night could be an interesting night at Lords. Not sure what the ‘Big Bopper’ Bruce Haley could have said after the game; not that it would have had any impact, and never a good time to unleash. No doubt he will be thinking carefully about his words in the ensuing few days and I have a feeling there could be a few home truths laid out and a few changes. Everyone is entitled to a bad game, but 41 runs is really a disgraceful effort and I feel for the loyal supporters that follow them week in week out who have to watch such rubbish. I don’t mean to take away from the young lad at Centrals who bowled very well from what I am told. The Royals will be feeling very happy about themselves, although 1/127 I would have expected a few more. This should be a tight contest and the mentally brittle Spiders will not want to lose quick wickets as they could quickly spiral out of control. Andy Lee will be itching to get out there and bowl as there is nothing better than an opponent that is lacking in confidence.

The Juggernaut were travelling well and then put their brains on hold and played like the rest. Very Unjuggernaut performance. Merlot was wiping the tears from his face as the Uniting lads passed the Juggernauts score. He has written them off. Woe betide Omega this week as they bounce back, and hard.

The Sky Blues will be cock a hoop after such a short afternoons work, but now back to the reality of having to play the rampaging Hoops. You can tell how the Hoops are travelling when you see their skipper strutting, and he has good reason to strut. They have picked up CP, and the luxury of having him bat at 5 in what is a very powerful batting line up.It does not does not bode well for CMCA attacks that CP could very well be entering the fray after tea when bowling attacks will be tiring. They are firming as the potential favourite this season, barring injury.

The Cowboys gave an honest account of themselves against the Royals and they will be buoyed by their performance. The Mackie lads will also be feeling a little bit better as they put a fair effort against the Hoops. Their kids are coming along slowly, but their batting can still be fragile as can the Cowboys. These two teams traditionally put on a great match irrespective of how their respective seasons are progressing and it is an opportunity for one of them to get away from relegation and start planning for next season.

Meanwhile back at the beach nothing much changes. Another home game for the Beach boys, against the Golfers who got up in a close one. Another box ticked there Leroy. It will be a lot harder down at the Beach this weekend where the ground is slow, the breeze refereshing, and the day is long in the field if you do not get the job done.

Another home game for the Uniting lads against the Panthers who will be filthy at dropping a game against the beach boys. This week they will have to lift their game against the top dogs otherwise it could get ugly.Uniting a looking for an opportunity to post a huge score and send the message out to all and sundry.

In Woolnough all eyes will be at Highett as the battle for the wooden spoon intensifies. The unexpected win by the homeless Hampton Uniting gives this match an edge of urgency as the opportunities are quickly running out for both teams. Big effort required from you Mick.

Chelsea Heights will be smarting losing to the Ommies in what was a real turn up. The Party boys will not have to travel far this week but they had better get their game hats on as they could be in for a long day in the field.

The Washups just get better and better. It is very easy to get complacent when they win and win they have been, but they seem to just be treating each game on its merits and worrying about nothing else, and it shows.

The Weststars will end Cludens finals aspirations this week, and then we will have the final four, just trying to settle the respective positions.

Hi All,

Merl my apologies for not getting the tips in over the break!!!

Great game against West Bentleigh on Saturday for us, They made a good score (213) even at the VERY quick Victory Park… But in the 38th over we got the runs after a good chase. WB should not be discounted in Quiney (they are 4th for a reason) whilst they don’t have many “young” (under 21) players they have a group of capable guys and I would expect them to feature in March!

Whilst at Victory on Saturday I was interested to overhear a WB official mention that “Stacey” would be back next week? Not sure how reliable this is? Merl, can you ran it past the lady on the tram for clarification? If that’s the case the timing couldn’t be better for WB as they are facing a relation fight off match with Mackie???? Hmm…

BD Tips below in bold, getting in early so I don’t forget again!!!

Bentleigh Uniting 3 v Washington Park 2
Le Page Park 2 v Cheltenham Park 1
Kingston Heath 2 v Elwood 2
West Bentleigh 2 v Mackie 2

As you heard first by the great Mentalist [ i see visions ], JGG back at the hoops made an instant impact and they are rightfully Equal favs for the flag.
It was also nice to get a scoop before the great Jimmy, there will be more to come soon.
Clocker seems to have rested up and has submitted some quality stuff, keep it up as we were a bit worried about you before xmas. [ nothing like a break to freshen up ].
Merl, you seem to be levelling out, stick at it old chap and as Donald once said, '' keep the b.....ds honest.
The redbacks coach was seen leaving the clinic in Sth Road on Monday, after some basic mind bending, it was confirmed he spent an hour in the floatation tank listening to some top 40 motivational hits.
Merl, there is a special at the local supermarket for boxes of tissues as i'm sure you are using plenty over the demise of the gold caps.
The judge has returned and needs to inforce the middle order at the royals, they just cannot endure those batting collapses in the middle against the opposition teams that face in the remaining games.
I too would be interested in talking to any of you brain dead idiots that like to make hoax calls and threaten people over the phone.
If you don't like to hear comments on a Y Tube feature by 2 try hard television novices, then simply, DON'T WATCH IT.
Keep up the comedy Sugar and Judge, its a rarity and good for your club if its done right.

Tips Rnd - 8
Longy
Gold caps - bounce back hard and will hit the ommies with outright in their sights.
Royals - may just get some momentum, middle order a worry.
Hoops - No maysie no two blues
Uniting - last weeks comments confirmed about the panthers
Beach Boys - too much sand around for the golfers
The Vandals - the machine just about done and dusted.

Wooly
Ommies - could unleash a new recruit, may also be stacking the 2's for a place in the four.
Hoops - a bit of a let down last week and a few of them were called into the office, will bounce back.
Royals - surely they cannot lose to uncle's mob as even he has said they are not up to it.
Uniting - too much talent, 11 against 2.
Cluden - halifax is a daunting task for some teams, this will be no exception
Heighters - my boy Locky will finally get a ton this week and will be keen to get to the bar early.

Fellas,

I'm in the process of organising a T20 match this Sunday at Highett West with all proceeds from a fundraiser going to the Qld flood appeal. If anyone out there has anything to donate to a silent auction that we will host while the game is on, it would be greatly appreciated. At the moment we've got a few items from Golf Australia, the Good Guys & Sportsmart. Notice is short, but with the forecast for Sunday being a good one we figured it would be best to make the most of it.
We're trying to lock in a local cover band today to play on Sunday and we'll organise a jumping castle for the kids. Beers will be $2.50 a pop, soft drink $1.50 and a bbq will be run for a gold coin donation. The canteen will also be open throughout the day. Every cent over and above our expenses will go to the the Qld flood appeal.
As far as participants go, I've floated the idea of a combined CMCA match with some of the players and the response has been good so far. I don't have details to contact all clubs, but if there are players interested could you please let me know as soon as possible (preferably today sometime), so that we can get things moving. Same applies to anyone who can donate. Once we have enough players to fill 2 sides I'll get the details out. As it stands the following players are people I've been able to contact and have said yes.
Duddy, Dallas, Corp, Devereaux (ESBC)
Biggs, White (ANA)
Bell (Hampton United)
Tonkin (AERSL)
Delac (Union)
Malane (Omega)
Bott (Moorabbin West)
Russell - is tenative, T.Brisbane (Uniting)
Flahive, Corr (HWCC).

Players unavailable so far are:
M.Reid, Casey (West Bent)
McConchie (Le Page)

If anyone from the CMCA clubs out there can get in touch with their own and get back to me asap it would be greatly appreciated.

Michael Flahive.

I just want to commend Uncle Mick and Highett West for what they are doing, what a wonderful cause and i really hope everyone in the CMCA turn up on Sunday and show there support and get involved for the victims of the QLD flood!

With all this rain around atm i am wondering if we will see any play this weekend? I would assume all turf matches will be called off once again.

LONGY
Omega 1 v East Sandy- to rebound in brutal fashion
Bentleigh ANA 1 v Carnegie South 1- Ana with there tails up atm were Carnegie as expected are in dismay
Hampton Central 1 v Brighton Union 1- I think this will be a great game but unions class too prevail
Bentleigh Uniting 1 v Le Page Park 1- Uniting by how much? would love to see them bat first to see how much they get
Elwood 1 v Kingston Heath 1- The woods too consolidate there place in the 4
Mackie 1 v West Bentleigh 1- Flip a coin, who ever puts together the better of sh1t performances will get the points

WOOLY
East Sandy v Omega 2- in a close one
Brighton Union 2 v Washington Park 1- this wont be a cake walk for wash ups but they will get the chocolates
Highett West 1 v Bentleigh ANA 2- there will be a good vibe at highett this week and will rub off for a rare win saturday
Hampton United 1 v Bentleigh Uniting- so dominate last week expect it too continue
Cluden 1 v Moorabbin West 1- there ready to make there mark
Chelsea Heights 1 v Aspen RSL- Wooly flag favs after surprise loss to rebound

In longy the season is shaping well, Uniting are 2 games clear and pretty much have stitched up top spot and have done everything possible to stake there claim as Flag favs and each week there is a keen eye over selection for in's and out's but sitting 7-0 very hard too change a winning formula.
As much as Uniting have firmed too flag favs the boys down the Highway are flying home and the inclusion of the JGG has Union well placed for a march into September, there biggest problem will be too keep a lid on it as there side is rife full of personality's and if they don't drop one all the way too March then they may even edge past the Brady Rd Billionaires as top dogs.
Elwood are getting the job done there strong showing in the T20 was pleasing and no doubt pushing Uniting all the way to the last ball gave them some confidence, but now is the time were there leader needs too step up, in the words of Grant Thomas 'leave his ego in the locker room' he needs too focus on playing good cricket rather then worrying about trying too show his team mates and the league how good he is. Some of his antics on the field this year i hope have only better served him in opening up his eyes and realise there is 11 players in one side of cricket, they have a real chance too come from a unsuspecting position and give it a shake.

Central have gone above expectation and credit too them for what they have achieved, the loss of Steve May back to the Uk will not help there push for and his departure alone will be the difference between the 2 blues making the 4 and not, i expect Elwood to benefit most from his departure as the squeeze will come from Elwood who will push ESBC down too 4th and pushing the 2 Blues out.
Last week ESBC were found wanting, there pace attack lacked flair and consistency and they can not push for the premiership with out there left arm swinging Cheek man. At times Manders and Dallas will do a job with the ball unfortunately Barny rubbles days of dominance are over, batting wise they are rusty atm obviously with games missing under the belt of Corp and Martyn which showed last Saturday against the spin of Russel and S.Zaia.

This raises another point, has anyside shown any ability to take Russel too town????.......i think not, we will enter a final series were the most dominate bowler will be Russel as we all know in this comp for years the CMCA bats have always struggled against spinners and it appears Uniting have 2 good-ens.
ESBC have had a great run and credit to them they are up there again but this year there is 2 maybe 3 better sides them then so this year they will be reflecting on former glories and well deserved too.

To save time i am going to put Carnegie, Le Page & Kingston Heath into the same basket, commendable year for all 3 as they have improved and at times played some very good cricket.I expect 1 of these 3 will push close too Finals action and 2nd of these 3 will flat line with a couple of wins and losses and not really move up or down and the 3rd (probably Kingston Heath) will battle home and drop a few games and lose a place or two on the ladder.

Ana well they are still trying too rebuild and i am not sure if there future is better served in the hands of mister Biggs.........his approach of 'do as i do' is wearing thin down at King George. Though they have been throwing out opportunities to there young brigade which hopefully will repay them in spades one day is not working atm. Campbell is a really big shadow of his former self and the Judge is missed terribly even though his late return will be nice for all at the club it is a little too late even as optimistic as they are in the belief of stringing a run of wins together.

Mackie and West Bentleigh well what a disgraceful year it has been for both clubs, to even think they are in the relegation zone shows there must be some massive problems at both clubs on field, off field and at the selection table. How they have both managed too fall over board i have no idea, Buddha and Marc Reid are carrying there respective sides, Mackie full of too many old blokes who expect it all too happen for them and now they are in a fight and it is not easy they are dropping off like ten pins.
West Bentleigh have a selection of blokes who have been around for a while names like, Fidler, Box, Lydster & Arundell who are just not delivering and seem content forming there own boys side in the 2nds rather then drag there club out of the sh1t which they owe them

Omega are battling along, for so long they have been the envy of clubs off field the way they have been run but that can only get you so far if performances are below par on field. Things can't be well down there with such players of the ilk of Wilkinson hiding in the 2nds for most of his career (albeit finally moving up into Longy lately) but with the likes of Malane, McGaw coming to a close on 2 magnificent stellar careers there depth is been tested and as are there structures.........are they beginning too show leaks in there ship or is the tidal wave (aka the Uniting presence) down the road taking it's toll. Omega is a proud club and they were saved from relegation but 2 years later it is there time too go down.

Who will we see replace them, it is a race between two in Wooly.
The heighters or the Wash ups take your pick because i can't decide, can you????

In finishing i was very pleased with my pre tournament selection of a Elwood v Uniting T20 final with the spoils going to the Brady Rd Billionaires so i will give you my Finals prediction in Longy for 2010-11 and i encourage any brave soul out there too put it on the line 4 games out and see how u go.

Final 4 Longmuir 2010/11
