City Of Moorabbin Cricket Association 2011/12

Is he playing? Batting at 11, bowling his tweekers to the tail and hiding him in the field? Hope not.
Couldn't agree with you more Clocker, if your fair dinkum in being up there in wooly, Fuller should not be able to get a game and even if he does he will just move on like he has always done to another club the following season!

He would have to be the most unloyal cricket player ever!

theres no way they will win anymore than 6 games.
7 games was enough for a finals spot last season. They will struggle against the top 2 Uniting/Juggernaut but the other teams are all winnable. The draw has been kind to them and they have the Hoops at Highett and the Beach Boys at Chelsea in their last two matches. The Hoops have struggled to get fit players on the park at the end of the season(especially bowlers) in the past few years and the Beach boys away from their fortress are vulnerable as they showed last season against the Redbacks.

Not so sure the Juggernaut will be as troublesome as they've been in the past. A fair turnover of players with Duddy out for the season, Manders jumping ship & Barney not playing. Add to that the speculation over the man with a behind that resembles a pumpkin who keeps threatening to retire down the grades, but is conisistently called upon to play in the top grade year in year out and if he goes they will find it difficult.

CHALLENGERS - READY???

If we turn the clock back 12 months there was a lot of buzz in CMCA circles about Bentleigh Uniting’s off-season recruiting campaign and how with the addition of 3 key players they had become the team to beat.
History reveals that Uniting went on to have a near faultless season, going through undefeated in Longmuir Shield, winning four senior premierships and the inaugural CMCA T20 competition. Indeed, if there had been a naked indoor clay pigeon shooting competition for people with six fingers, they probably would have won that as well.
With the benchmark having been set, what remains to be seen is whether the other eleven teams have been able to follow the blueprint and put it into action. With most of the top tier teams it seems the improvement will have to come from within as it has been a quiet build up with few big name recruits having joined the CMCA.
Uniting have maintained their squad and will be expecting even more improvement from their talented young list of Tommy Backman, Seb Zaia and Tim Brisbane whilst the next fresh batch of young players expected to push for 1st XI selection include Luke Cody, Ben Humphrey, Mitch Backman, Harrison Zaia and Callum Cathcart.
The clubs core of Glenn Lalor, Ash Russell, Damian Britt and Brett “Fitterand” Turner is talented and reliable although Brett Ernst will not rejoin the club until 2012. Fortunately the club has a ready made replacement behind the pegs in Jarryd Allen. Simon Surridge will again lead the attack and he shows no signs of slowing down either figuratively or literally but will need to be nursed to ensure he is still firing come March.
Last seasons runners-up Brighton Union have done some re-tooling with opening bat Darian Kuzma taking over the captaincy. Having started with the clubs under 12’s Kuzma has previous captaincy experience at HaileyburyCollege and with the CMCA Under 21 team. His vice captains will be class spinner Stuart “Ding Dong” Bell and opening bowler Michael Cove.
Ross Veitch remains bowling coach. Veitch has had coaching experience in Western Australia but more than anything the club hopes he can remain injury free and be the lynchpin of their pace attack which regains promising James Haupt whilst the club will be looking to improvement from young bat Antony Stojko, who has also been bowling the house down at training. Aaron Gregory who had a great season with the bat and gloves is looking to take it up another notch, speedster Julius Waras Carstensen is as fit as he has ever been following a stellar footy season with Glen Eira and Con Pothitos is also in great condition. All rounder Stuart Scorgie has been performing extra well at training and is looking forward to a good season.
The club will also be looking to other young players in Romy Nayagam, Hayden McLennan, Jim deFegely and uber-talented 15 year old Tom “Legga” Lamb to lift the team to the top prize.
Last seasons skipper Ivan Delac has returned to Omega and will be a huge loss.

Down at Wattie Wason, Elwood is striving to continue the good work that was implemented last season that saw the beach boys figure in the Longmuir Shield finals. Dual player of the year Marshall Bunting will again captain the First XI, a side that should largely remain with the same make-up as last season. Off the field, Steve Jones has been reappointed as Head Coach and joining him will be Nathan Harris as Assistant Coach. Elwood also has a new President, with popular clubman Dave May taking the reins for the 2011-12 season.
Hampton Central retain David “Carrot” Gold as on field leader and the playing list will be largely the same but with a subtle shift in reliance on the old brigade to the likes of Alex & Lachy Hay and promising fast bowler Nigel Hunt. Big things are expected from Grant Newman in his second season.
The re-built Clyde Clarke pavilion will be ready for use by the seasons start, with a formal Grand Opening expected early in the season.
Kingston Heath retain their youth philosophy although experienced former Longmuir players in Greg De Zylva and Brad Lark return to the fold. Kash Wadhwa returns from a short stint at Kingston Saints. Troy Warner continues to captain the firsts and Leroy De Alwis is still coach.
The clubs youth group of Andrew Birt, Arran and Shea Gribben, Yianni Pasialis, Cal Rayner, Nick Waltrich and Adam Williams all showed they can mix it with the best last season and will be working on their consistency.
Carnegie South began brightly last season before hitting a brick wall and lost talented bat David Fisher who returned to the UK. John Collison and Bruce Haley remain the brains trust but it is a make or break year for The Redbacks young batsmen who need to show some resilience to support their honest bowling line up. The Redbacks are also rumoured to have a couple of surprise recruits from the sub-continent.
Bentleigh ANA is keeping the faith with the young squad that saw the club rise from 9th to 6th in 2010/11. Again under the leadership of Bill Biggs, the club hopes to see the continued improvement from names such as James White, Brad Dolman, Brad Lovell, Joel Gebert and the Jansz brothers. Key match winners Andy Lee and Mohamed Rasmijinan will again saddle up, and quality batsman Adam “The Judge” Mikkelsen returns.
East Sandringham were smarting after not waltzing to another flag last season and then losing outstanding young all-rounder Luke Manders so acted quickly appointing former Hampton and Omega man Clint Ferguson as coach and he has settled in very quickly at East spending plenty of time with the next batch of East juniors including Tim “Cheese” Berger, Mitch Strahan, Stuart Montfort and Tadhg “Smacka” Fitzgibbon.
The batting looks very strong with Guy Martyn, Dan Corp, Mark Devereaux and Ferguson all available for full seasons which will help offset the loss of key men Luke Manders (Aspendale Gardens) and Anton Duddy (knee reconstruction – out until Christmas). Top all-rounder Luke Dallas may also miss part of the season but East is another club who might still have a sneaky last minute addition to their squad.
West Bentleigh have had an unusually quiet off season, they did bag Kade Murphy, ex-Washington Park and Bentleigh ANA, a handy top order batsman whom the club hopes will back up club stalwarts Marc Reid and Damien Casey and be a big help to rookie skipper, Chris Fidler. All-rounder Jack McLeod and opening bat Oliver Box should be regulars in the firsts this season and West are confident of a much higher finish come March.
New chums ChelseaHeights are doing everything possible to make their inaugural Longmuir season a winner having retained all players including coach Shaun Ezard, captain Brad Lockhart and Andrew Mills. The core of youth is a year older and Adam Hume, Steve Kat, Erish Uthayakumar and Tom Cleaver will need to be solid contributors. The club also recruited a pair of opening bowlers in Luke Shelton (AspendaleGardens) and Anthony Reid (West Bentleigh) and regained top order bat Andrew Sleeth whilst veterans Neil Lockhart and Premiership hero Paul Smit will be hoping to slip down to the seconds but provide handy depth.
Mackie will still bank on its reliable group of Damien Krotofil, Craig Park and Dean Bott and exciting young trio Nelson, Supree and Lavery. A full season from paceman Jimmy Clements would make a big difference as the club rebounds from an indifferent 2010/2011 season.
Le Page Park were similar to Carnegie South last season, starting very well but fizzling out to almost nothing by seasons end. Losing Steve McConchie to injury did not help and he is sure to have a big impact this season. For youngsters Justin Greer, Michael Deiacovo, Declan Hampton and Ryan “Boyzone” Keating, the time to prove themselves has arrived and they will need to make telling contributions for The Panthers as will reliable spinner Scott Hendy, exciting bat Glen Czosneck and paceman Michael Knight. The clubs big signing is Oshan De Silva, a fast bowler from Footscray United who is expected to make a big impact.

Indeed, if there had been a naked indoor clay pigeon shooting competition for people with six fingers, they probably would have won that as well.

Nice write-up Jimmy. Cracking metaphor that!

De Silva is a massive signing, wouldnt be cheap either. Took 80+ wickets in 2 seasons for Footscray, averaging 15. Will be curious to see how he adjusts to Synthetic. But well done on the signing, big coup.

Sensational write up also, loved reading it.

yep agree, pleasant reading there Jim Bob.. Must of been busy on the phone of late??

Now many references will you make to Goldy's 'Nickname' of the course of this season... im tipping Solid will get a run at some stage?? Might have to follow the footy show & present you with a plaque on the radio show for the 1000th telling of the same gag!!

Dont expect Kade Murphy to play at West Bent if he has indeed signed (said he knew nothing about it 2 weeks ago). If he does, expect illnesses in games against Washups and Bentleigh ANA.

Goodonya Burgs, yes I am really starting to run out of material (about 3 years ago) for Goldy. My personal favorite was "Acapulco" Gold - wiki it.
Does not look like too many clubs have made big strides you'd have to say in general.

My mail is he could be the quickest bowler in Longmuir.
Mick it doesn't really say much as we don't have too many quicks in the comp who regularly show their wares. There maybe one or two on the cusp if they take another step but the last real firebrand was Schleiger. Just hope this new quick doesn't go crazy and bowl too short or it could be a long day in the field with only two allowed outside the circle in the early overs.

Good to see three former CMCA players playing together at St.Kilda.(Manning, Bychkov, Drummond) as well as former Royal, Steven Singh who managed to break into the Prahran 1sts as a fast bowler who can bat and his brother Michael who is also at Prahran. Young Supree and Weiss former Mackie and the Agar brothers representing McKinnon also playing at District clubs. Seems that the coaches have been doing something right. Well done to all concerned and hopefully they will rejoin the fold at a later stage.Apologies to anyone I have left out but let us know as it always good to see how these players develop.
