Terrible way for our 'G' grade boys to finish, a genuine 5th eleven team full of kids, some with great potential.

'D' grade for me, blew my 'C' grade chance in round 10. Our 'D' grade has had a great year and hopefully we'll take one more step this w

86 points in your D grade , 22 points above 2nd place. Fair year that. I guess you are going in slight favourites:D.

Re: DVCA - C grade and below

Can someone please explain to me how it is possible to drop players from A and B Grade for the last couple of games of the season and stack lower grade sides to get them into finals?
A certain F grade side on the week end, stacked their Team with players that were far too good for that standard of cricket, knowing they needed an outright win to make the finals.
In that side was one guy who played the first 8 rounds of the season in Money Shield and dropped down to play the last two rounds of the season in F Grade.
Another player had played 1 game in Money shield and 10 games in Money Reserve and then dropped down to F Grade for the last game of the season.
Yet another player had played 2 Money Shield games, 4 Money Reserve games and 4 E grade games, dropped into F grade for the first time all season in the last round.
4 players on the day were playing their first game in F grade for the season in the last round!
Now, I understand that clubs want to qualify teams for the finals but this is not fair to those who play cricket week in and week out in the lower grades. It is no fun to play against players that are far superior in talent and ability. Isn't that why we have so many grades of cricket? So that we can play against players of similar ability?
In every other Competition I have played in, there has been a rule in place to prevent this type of activity. Why do we not have something in the DVCA to prevent this stacking of sides?
If you play a certain number of games in higher grades, you should not be allowed to drop to the lower grades later in the season

We had a great game against the frangers, not taking them lightly. Played to many finals to fall for that.

Also to the weak ...... at Riverside in G grade against us.
Refused to make a game of it and simply batted the second day out after being beaten on the first day.
Although creek got in by default ( re walkover above) hope they smash the clappers this week... who obviously decided they would rather play Creek than give us a chance.
.

Sounds like a bit of sour grapes.:)

I also reckon you should also read the email sent by the DVCA in regards to contrived results in round 11.

However I do agree with you IRT extra fines for late in the season forfiets its a shame when they effect the result.

Not sure about that. I think there will be a fair bit of pressure on blokes coming down from B grade, about half a dozen have qualified for C grade, who will in turn put pressure on D grade.

that will make selection a problem, are you safe in d grade then?

Let me put it this way, I'll be training both nights. Couple of good kids have been getting runs in G grade, they'll be pushing for a spot also.

are you qualified to play in the semi if you make it hoggy?

Nah I wasn't, it was my first game in C grade for the season after playing 2 in A, and 8 in B grade...I just missed A grade selection and didn't really want to play in another meaningless game in B grade again.

I've played in two wins personally in the last two seasons and could manage two games in A grade this year, after taking 30 wkts in B grade at an average of 9. Fairly frustrating....

Well played to Bundoora, but we didn't do ourselves much help with a couple of very regulation catches being dropped in the corden. Anyway, what can you do?

BTW, C grade umpires are downright disgraceful.

Not sure about a contrived result - certainly no handshake agreements made as is obvious by the result - but would have thought they might have had a crack at reversing the result to retain top spot, as we would have had to had a go at getting the 10 points also.
They simply conceded defeat and used day two for batting practice for 3-4 bats.

Sour grapes maybe but when you win 7 out of 9 with a team full of kids, only to miss out due to a weak team that couldnt be bothered fielding a side in the last game - stinks to me...

Rumour has it the umps are pushing for another pay rise for next year...?

Given that half them only do it for the money now, it is not going to improve the standards any.
Most umps seen in and around C grade this year do not seem to know the basic rules.

LBW - (now remember I am a bowler) some how has come to mean that if you get hit on the pads no matter where the ball is pitched or what direction it is heading, or how far forward you are, you are a 33% chance to be given out.
If you survive this first appeal and manage to get hit on pads again in the following ten minutes, then these odds jump to about 75%.
If you are fortunate enough to again survive the second appeal (7 out of 10 dont) and then silly enough to get hit on the pads (or anywhere) again in the next few overs - then you just need to walk off as you know you will be given out.

I will not vote for any furthe rincreases in umpire payments unless they can clearly demonstrate they know the rules. Pre season umpire training (available from Cricket Vic) should be mandatory before being allowed to umpire.

Then if they want an increase, should be tiered per grade. Barclay $140, Money $120, reserves $100 and then C and below $80.

I heard at a recent Umpires meeting a representative from CV umpires department come down to chat to them, he was talking he said 'all decisions you make in cricket are pretty easy, you can see or hear what has happened, that is other than the LBW law where you have to have a little guess, but with your comp here there would be very few LBWs as if a player is coming forward there is well to much bounce and guess work and it basically is not out' Dick Norman immeadiatly protested but was eventually told, NO, if a batsman is well forward it would need to be very very low when it hits to be even considered out. He was not happy. He did mention that the pitches must come into it and most of ours are very bouncy and must be considered.

Not having a crack at Dick and Davo, but I believe that new blood is required in the running of the Umpires, and transparent allocations of umpires, especially if, as you suggest a tiered payment. I have had some great umpires in lower grades that I have had and seen in higher ones. Sometimes I reckon all they get out of the umpire report is something to read and laugh about around a beer,

IRT training, if the umpire does not make himself available to do it and meetings through out the year (as rules and trends are discussed then as well) then they MUST be dropped, its that easy.

For the tiered, you will find it hard to drop C grade umps from 100 to 80, So I reckon maybe Barclay & Money $120, reserves $110 and then C and below $100. Not much but the thought that counts.....

Obviously if the ground's that bad and unsafe the game should be moved - and by now.
