DVCA Off-Season 2021

Well coloured clothing was raised at the DVCA agm for this years one day games in the shield grades.
Nearly every club has a coloured kit or something close enough. I can personally see this being a thing for this upcoming season!
I dont want to pile on here but... It cant be nearly as far as uniforms go. With colored clothing every player must look exactly the same otherwise it looks like a game of under 12's (no disrespect to Under 12's!) . So if you have players going up and down the grades there needs to be enough supply at clubs to facilitate that. I would think that most first elevens wear exactly the same playing shirt but from there it can be a dogs breakfast

I get the feeling clubs will struggle with finances this year.. will there be any bars able to even be open after games?
The whole uniform thing seems to be a bit odd to do it this year when there is so much uncertainty. I think leave the ball red. The grass green and wear the whites.
Cricket is expensive enough to play!

Every single game I played were able to have beers after the game. I assume it'll be the same

The smart politicians at hand and all the science available suggest the goal posts have changed.
I dare say, vaccinated people only in club rooms.
Vaccinated players only possibly as well.
Living with cases as well compared to having no cases last year. Good I hope not.. but let’s be honest.. last year was last year

I like to see how that would be policed. I dare say you won’t need to be vaccinated to play community sport. Who knows in this current climate.

All one dayers seemed like the correct decision. 45 over games. Potential 12pm start? Don’t mind it

Vaccination passport.
When you register you would need to have that uploaded as well. It would then also fall back to the clubs who would be penalised for allowing unvaccinated players to play.

Agree 45 overs is good. Juniors can bowl their 9 overs and feel apart of it.

DV stuck in the golden age, almost every other comp already plays in colors and white balls. Need to get their act together. One day cricket in whites with red balls, gross.

Agree. The NMCA have been able to even bring in coloured clothing for this season. If its manageable for them, it's going to be fine for us.

It's so lazy and typical to just throw this in the too hard basket, it's not expensive and it will look great for all shield grades.

Predict we'll be playing cricket by mid-November, so clubs have the following options to not be caught out and let the whole competition down by being lazy and unorganised.

  1. $31.90 will get you a coloured cricket pant (Available in Red, Royal, Navy, Black, Bottle, Maroon, Gold., Any sizes can be manufactured, Minimum 20 Pairs, Allow approx 4 weeks for delivery, made in Australia (from Buffalo Sports in Brunswick)
  2. If clubs want to be proactive and have the resources to do so, can get a higher end product where suppliers can turn pants around within 5-6 weeks with sponsors and club/comp logos incorporated (hint maybe ask a business to subsidise the new pants with logo placement)
  3. If the clubs existing merchandise supplier cant help, give Rossy a call from BU he will look after you with TNF.
  4. Wear white pants and existing coloured polo/warm up top (every club has a coloured polo/warm up top)

No club has the right to demand a players medical history, Covid or otherwise.

An unvaxxed player doesn’t qualify to be a registered player. An unregistered player can’t play.

An unregistered player can’t be put on a team sheet.

Each player needs to reregister in 2021/2022, with proof of being Fully Vaxxed or with medical exemption.

This all can be done without a player having to give his medical/vax status to the club.

That’s good news.. but doesn’t who plays fall back on the clubs?

It does, but its up to the player to get registered and to be registered you must either be vaxxed or have a medical exemption. This way the player is not handing over any personal information to a club official. That is my main objection to any comps requirement.

I don't believe any third party has the right to demand your medical history and that's how it should be. Saying that you have to "register" implies some over seeing body has to police the registration process and they wouldn't have the right to demand such information either and I believe the fines for doing so under the privacy act are quite hefty.

Then the question is; how long to do want this to go on. Will we still be having to show some proof of vaccination in 5 years? Like it or lump it, everyone will be exposed to this virus sooner or later, that will make any talk of a vaccination "passport" pointless.

...and before anyone starts screaming "antivaxxer" at me, I am not, get vaccinated guys. I do however believe peoples rights and privacy need to be protected.

As long as no one from the club has the right to ask for your vax status.
#fullyvaxxed

That would also mean the DVCA or Cricket Australia couldn't ask such a thing either and frankly, they can't under current law. I know I'm invoking the slippery slope fallacy, but it does have precedent. Imagine you suddenly allow organisations to enquire as to the medical procedures you've had. A vaccination is a medical procedure, but what if a club paying money for a player wants to know if he has had any knee surgery, or have they had any stress fractures. A company hiring you wants to know if you've had a heart attack or if you are diabetic, that's scary stuff because you're on the brink of creating an underclass of people who can't get a job or partake in recreational activities. I realise that is taking things to the extreme, but you have got to be careful of the legal and ethical precedents you set and current laws are in place to stop exactly that happening.

I think what we're all skirting around is the issue of; what happens if there is an outbreak in the competition, who is liable? Clearly this issue would come under voluntary assumption of risk, the same as we accept that injury or even death could happen as the result of the game. Negligence is something you cannot indemnify yourself against, so would be allowing an unvaccinated player to compete result in a claim of negligence? I don't think so on two fronts; we already may have unvaccinated players in the competition, who knows if everyone has had their triple antigen shots? Some of you older players for example may not have had the chicken pox vaccine. Secondly, the risks of not being vaccinated are now well known and by the time the season rolls around everyone will have had the opportunity to get a vaccination. If you can't sue Coles for catching a virus in their store, you can't sue the comp or club if you catch a virus on the field.

Yeh, splitting hairs calling it a "vaccine passport" it's still an invasion of medical privacy no matter what you call it.
I think our “privacy’s” have well and truly been invaded over the years and my iPhone already knows everything about me, so a vaccine passport isn’t going to change that much! I imagine it will be part of registration and I personally don’t have an issue with it.

As most guys who play cricket like going to the pub and sporting events where it will be compulsory, I’m anticipating most of, if not all will be fully vaccinated prior.

I manage a young racing car driver and he will need to be double dosed to compete, along with all officials and spectators. It’s the way of the world, so let’s move forward and get on with it!
