Re: JATA Shield T20 Competition

The Thomson Tigers XI became the first qualifiers from Geelong for the JATA Rolling Shield Round of 16 with two wins today at South Barwon Reserve. In their first game they played South Barwon at Reynolds Reserve and won the toss and elected to bat on a wicket which could not be described as anything but "road like" !! After a quietish start and thanks to three South Barwon dropped chances off Bourke including yours truly the runs start ticking over with some constant boundaries in the power play overs !! Bourkey top scored with 36, Smiljanic (20) looked very dangerous until T20 specialist "Wonka) knocked his stumps over and some good contributions from Bentley, Ford and Strods saw a very defendable score of 7 for 167 from their 20 overs. The Swans batted and started very well with Babb (31) and Hauenstein D (39) putting on 69 (lucky for some) for the first wicket from 8 overs. Fagan then came in at #3 and pushed the ball around very nicely. With 5 overs to go and 51 runs required and 8 wickets in hand it was anyone's game but some important wickets of Fagan (48 - including a nice 6 over cover) and Linke changed the momentum and the Tigers were able to hold on to a 10 run victory.

In the game next door the Super Saints XI without a few of their Geelong players won the toss and batted against a Marshall Bears XI which picked up a couple of handy inclusions including Shaun Campbell and Brett Anderton. On a wicket which was hard to score off and after a promosing opening stand of 26 runs from 5 overs things went bad pretty quickly for the SuperSaints as Shaun Campbell weaved some of his magic. Brad Andrews and Campbell did the majority of the top order damage with Campbell ending with 5 for 6 from his 4 overs. Showing the difficulty of the pitch Brett Anderton had 0 for 7 from his 4 overs. The SuperSaints struggled to a well below par score of 63, being bowled out in the 16 over.
The Bears run chase was never in total control and with the score at 5 for 36 it was game on but the Bears steadied thanks to a great knock of 25 not out from Julian Carr to cement the win with 6 down in the 16th over. This then set up a JATA final against the Thomson Tigers XI.

Marshall won the toss and batted in the final and after finishing the first over at 1 for 0 including the loss of Lucas Cameron may have been thinking was it the right choice. The rebuilding of the innings began and some solid batting saw the Bears push to around 4 for 90 in the thirteeth over but then loosing two quick wickets including captain Rohan Sykes (41) the ball after hitting a massive 6 the momentum changed. A few lower order hits saw the Bears take their score along to 8 for 137 off their 20, which in the eyes of some was probably a bit under par for the ground and wicket.
The Tigers began like a rocket and after 3 overs were 0 for 40 with Smiljanic and Bourke being brutle on anything short. A vocal Tigers supporter was enjoying the punishment being dealt out in particular to the former Thomson quick. The removal of Smiljanic for 34 only momentarily stopped the momentum as "JATA recruit of the year" Bourke knocked up a stylish 60. A few late wickets with 3 coming from Govins gave the Bears some slight hope but the win was brought up in the 15 over to see the Tigers through to the final 16 Melbourne based competition in Mid January.

Well done to the Tigers they were the most professional side for the whole short tournament and hopefully they do well in Melbourne and maybe give some commission to the Tournament Director !! hehe

Did you take a photo so you can show your home curator what they should look like AB1?

Re: JATA Shield T20 Competition

Tigers CC beat Eagles CC in the round of 16 of the Jata Shield yesterday.

After being 6/44 off 6 overs the Tigers finished 7/222 off 20, largely thanks to Jayden Hicks' 89 off 44 balls including 5 punishing 6's.

The Eagles were bowled out for 140 on the hard green synthetic surface of Airport West CC back oval.

The Tigers travel to a destination TBA next sunday to play in the quarter finals and one step closer to the $10K.

Re: JATA Shield T20 Competition

When do the Tigers play in the next round ? How are the uniforms which have been supplied ? And what % cut of the prize money does AB1 get to claim as the side progresses ?

Re: JATA Shield T20 Competition

1. This sunday (17th) at Bulleen i think.
2. Not too bad, only white shirts screen-printed. Not bottoms.
3. A Thomson CC hat and a seat next to Smelly on the way home is all i ask.

Re: JATA Shield T20 Competition

That works out at 1500 a run this year, and you know i wouldn't get out of bed for that.

South the only club that pay those sort of dollars......;)

Re: JATA Shield T20 Competition

Tigers next game is against Rue Babalon this Sunday,17th Jan 10AM @ Airport West CC.

We're up to $750 in the kitty, we win this next match and it goes to $1500!

Re: JATA Shield T20 Competition

Tigers XI got beaten convincingly by Rue Babalon over the weekend.

Tigers made 120 from their 20 overs, Rue Babalon passing them 1 down in the 18th over. Some dubious home-umpiring didn't help our top order but it didn't matter much as Rue Babalon cruised to victory.

Their captain was this man.

He happened to take 5/12 off 4 and make 85*. His signature shot was the one-handed reverse sweep over point which netted him 5 boundaries.

Never seen anything like it before.
