New South Wales have secured a major coup with Brendon McCullum drafted into the state's squad for the Australian domestic Twenty20 final

Re: McCullum signs on for New South Wales

I am puzzled here. One of the worlds most devestating hitters gets the chance to win some domestic title by playing 1 game. Didnt read the article but assume that he is here to play before the NZ onedayers and then afteR?

Re: McCullum signs on for New South Wales

Sign a foriegn player for 1 game and hes becomes eligable for the World Club championships? That in itself is puzzling, but soemthing else springs to mind.

How desperate are NSW to make money at that tournament? Is it the basis of their fund-raising for the next year??

Yeah good point.

They must be very desperate for money.

cheats
even without hodge (maybe), hussey and white they need to bring in McCullum
the vics will still get up though

Re: McCullum signs on for New South Wales

Oh well, if we had the full week to prepare I would have hoped we did the same thing, unfortunately time constraints have stopped us

Re: McCullum signs on for New South Wales

Pretty shit, really. And I'm a NSW fan. I hope he gets out for a duck, but we still win.

NSW will be without Bracken, Warner, Haddin and Hauritz, and if Clarke hadn't been playing international cricket previously, he would probably be fit to play for NSW as well. Don't get me wrong, as I said, I don't agree with McCullum being parachuted into the side for the final, but bringing in the absence of Hussey and White and possible absence of Hodge is unfair.

Re: McCullum signs on for New South Wales

Hauritz is no loss, neither is Clarke in T20 cricket

McCullum is better than both Haddin and Warner, so really Bracken is NSW's only real loss, maybe Lee but he is just as likely to go for 50 runs off his 4 overs than be destructive

By bringing in McCullum, NSW will be alot closer to full strength than Victoria

Of course by bringing in McCullum, NSW will be a lot closer to full strength. As I said, I'm not a fan of McCullum coming into the side.

However, don't bring in the entirely separate issue of "Victoria have players missing", because NSW do as well. Besides which, weren't most Victorians complaining about this exact same issue, but in reverse, in regards to the SS/ Pura Cup final last year, in which a bunch of Aussie players came back to play in the final. People bitched about that being unfair, and yet now Vic supporters want the exact same thing to happen to them. Some consistency, please. Once again, don't get this confused with the McCullum issue, which is an entirely separate matter as McCullum was not actually signed until before the final.

Re: McCullum signs on for New South Wales

Difference is White and Hussey played in most of our games and always have, those NSW players would have had to dust the cobwebs off their Blues gear it had been so long since used

Re: McCullum signs on for New South Wales

I don't see a bad sportsmanship issue in this sorry. Sure New South Wales signed Brendan Mcullum for one game to help them win but that is simply good player recruitment not bad sportsmanship. No one said it was bad sportsmanship that the redbacks got Younis Khan in their side.

Just because New South Wales signed an international legend for one game is not bad sportsmanship. In fact I highly doubt the players got a say in it at all and at the end of the day they are the ones who are representing Sportsmanship.

So? The blokes are on international duty! It's not like they're buggering off on holiday and then coming back for the final. The whole concept behind our domestic competition, and any non-representative competition, is that the best team you can field from your list goes up against the best team the opposition can field from their list. The fact that those NSW players have been off playing international cricket means that NSW are DISADVANTAGED, not that them coming up gives them some sort of advantage.

It's not like NSW's international players are somehow excess players that blow in and give NSW an advantage when they aren't playing for Australia. They come in and even up the field, after NSW have been disadvantaged by their absence.
