Subbies 2010-11

More rain coming up next weekend, we just can't catch a break. Broadmeadows and Ormond two sides who have been on the wrong end of the table the last over the past few years look to be big improvers for 2010/11. Melton easy 9 wicket winners and Craig Sheedy scoring a ton, nothing has changed in the west.

20/20 comp started last night, interesting to see some of the guest players who turned out. Bayswater had Tom Stray from Ringwood who made runs, and Oakleigh had Glenn Maxwell who has played for Victoria this year slap 50 odd. Saw Matt Love got a ton for Yarraville, bloody good effort in a T20. Also saw on Oakleigh's website that a few of their players have been named in the 'East' group squad to play against the 'West' in a T20 to determine the VSDCA team, so South is playing North on the same day. Have these teams been announced somewhere?

The Rep matches will actually be the new format one dayers, 2 x 20 overs, then swap for the remaining 25 overs after a lunch break. Players have been notified of their selection, I don't believe they have been announced publicly as yet. We only know of the Oaks boys being selected.

It's going to be a long and interesting weekend for all the "Subbies" out there with a Saturday/Sunday round for Round 4. And with the weather again not looking like it is going to co0operate, it will make for some interesting decisions by the captains at both the toss of the coin and then when to declare (if required) to get a result.

Balwyn (1-0-1) vs. Plenty Valley (0-2-0)
Ivanhoe (0-1-1) vs. Elsternwick (0-1-1)
Brighton (1-0-1) vs. Ormond (2-0-0)
Malvern (1-0-1) vs. Preston (0-1-1)
Coburg (0-1-1) vs. Brunswick (1-0-1)
Kew (2-0-0) vs. Caulfield (2-0-0)
Moorabbin (0-1-1) vs. Kingston Saints (0-1-1)

VSDCA - East West Group - Round 4 - Nov13 & Nov14. 2Dayer. Selections Bolded.
Bayswater (0-2-0) vs. Oakleigh (2-0-0)
Box Hill (1-0-1) vs. Williamstown (0-1-1)
Altona (0-1-1) vs. Melton (1-1-0)
Broadmeadows (1-1-0) vs. Croydon (1-0-1)
Endeavour Hills (1-0-1) vs. Noble Park (0-1-1)
Mount Waverley (1-1-0) vs. Sunshine (0-1-1)
Yarraville (0-1-1) vs. Werribee (1-0-1)

Pray for sunshine boys ......

Hope everyone has been keeping dry.
Looks like another lost weekend as I don't think there'll be any play tomorrow either.
I know that all the players are frustrated at not getting any semblence of cricket but what about those poor old umps who are missing out on their pocket-money !

That South side is putrid .. a much better side could have been picked

Agree. Sth Side - brett chard and Cam Christianson amongst others? they must have been short. Didn't the selectors have the balls to nominate either Barts or Travaglia captain of the East side? A cple of handy players in the West. Wolfey, Sheeds, Love, Allen etc.

See this week's game has changed to 2x Onedayer. So you play who you were meant to play last week this Saturday (Rd 4) then play Rd 5 next week. Would have to disagree with saying Chard doesn't warrant a spot, has been pretty solid last 2 seasons.

Im sure most of us were looking forward to a 2 dayer but as long as cricket is being played then its fine by me. Its good to see the subbies are finally going to take the rep game seriously with some practice games. Should be some good entertainment with some quality sides being picked. I agree that the West look to be the strongest on paper however you never know. As im lead to believe the sides were picked by one person from each group, Butch Gale from Melton did the West, Shaun Richardson did the south and so on so its really on one man's opinion.

There is a five man selection panel for all rep sides and TOTY, Gale (West), Scott (North), Richardson (South), Edmunds (East), with Tiger Bain as the Chairman.

When was the last time that Ormand were 3-0? See the best bloke in the comp, Beshara was kicking the dew of the deck in the twos.

Well, another round of 1Dayers as we again contemplate a day that may very well be interrupted by the weather gods. Let's keep our fingers crossed that all game scan get started and a result, even if manufactured , is achieved. And with many of the teams having had more draws than wins or loses, it would be good for them to see some full day's action.

Round 5 Preview
In the North West Group, there are two highlight matches that this far into the season could start to shape the competition ladder. They are Ormond hosting Malvern and Brunswick welcoming Kew, while the Balwyn vs. Moorabbin match is also one that will have some interest. In the East West Group, it is a little bare for highlight games this round with the Oakleigh and Box Hill matchup probably the best followed by the Melton vs. Broadmeadows game also of interest.
