Saw the Melton game on the weekend and if the slips had been in the right place Wheelehan would've got 5 for and Jones would not have needed to come back on and clean up the tail as he did.

What an effort by the Willy boys!!!!!!!!! No home ground, so have had to travel each week, Still manged to finish 3rd but were widely predicted to go out in straight sets, But with a team of kids, well supported by a few experienced players, the have absolutely given it to the Oaks on their own ground,

But where to for the Oaks? A strong club, who appear to be well led on the field by JT. However One grand final in 3 years and two consecutive abysmal semi final losses with the playing group they have will cleary rankle with the head honchos. Look for some aggressive recruiting next year.

Maybe oakleigh got caught up celebrating too hard after winning the t20 final. Apparently jt pulled up with a sore shoulder after he did 10 windmills with his bat when he hit the winning runs...

Huge game this weekend down at the lions den!

Yeah don't know about your odds there mate. I'd have it at Melton $1.30 Willy $3.00. Melton have to go in as favourites after their big win at home against Willy in the last round of the year. However that was a one day match and Willy's bowler's especially are far more suited to two day cricket. It should be a magnificant contest, two pretty big rival's meeting in a grand final for the first time in a far while.

A positive for Melton has been the return to form of Alexander in recent weeks. He struggled for the first 12 rounds but come good in round 13 against Willy getting a 90* and continuing that on last weekend with a 60. Kirk and Mick Allen have been slaying them all season and Geisler has chipped in, the only one that hasn't performed to his best is Butch with an average of 20 this season but that just means he is due. On the bowling side of things Wheelahan(concrete) has had his best season to date,Duncan Harrison the same Geisler and Allen have chipped when needed. The danger man though is Joones, he had been extremely quite in the home and away season but has lifted when it counts in the two finals. I recall him getting 5fa in the champ final a couple of years ago so is a big game performer.

For Willy, obviously Sheedy is the big scalp. An amazing year again from him scoring close to 800 runs and taking 20+ wickets. He is so consistant and always seems to get a score in big games. Last time Willy were crowned premiers he churned out a 120 in the final, everyone down at Burbank Oval is hoping he can reproduce. However he will need help and so far this season Sandars has been his right hand man contributing in nearly every match throughtout the season. Murdoch was also back to form last week with a 48 but watch out for Hodges and Davis both very dangerous when they get going and could be the suprise packets this week. With the bowling it may look one dimensional but gee it is effective. Speakman is back to his best of 3 or 4 years ago and it just not bowling bad balls. Just puts it on the spot and the batsmen end up making the mistake, Sheedy is the same, he rarely goes for more than 2 an over. Last week he didn't get a wicket but went for 45 from his 23 overs and that just builds pressure.

Hopefully we can see a good tight battle that is still in the balance come 5:30 sunday. Go Willy.

Sheedy to make 134no.......Melton to win..........

You might be onto something here. When the Oaks won the 20/20, their victory was posted on their website that night. They really talked up the "make up" games against Melton after they "leapt to second place" on the Kenny Fewster "and heaped pressure on Melton" (see the website). After they were smacked in both firsts and seconds, somehow those results NEVER made it to the webpage, and the weekends capitulation still hasn't be been posted. Maybe they only like happy ends at Oakleigh.

Well, after all the issues, mainly weather, that has dogged the competition this season the Sub-District competition is finally down to the real pointy end - the Grand Finals. And both grannies have the tinge of intrigue and anticipation about them.

Traditional rivals Malvern and Caulfield clash in the North South Group final at Caulfield Park, with the visitors having been able to overcome the 'fielders' on a number of occasions in finals in recent seasons. The closely located rivals have a healthy respect for each other and the match should be a close fought out affair with Caulfield tipped to win their first premiership in the past seven tries.

Williamstown have surprised a few by making the East West Group Grand Final against favourite Melton. The game at Melton shouldn't be a worry for the "Willy" players as they haven't had a home ground all season and have played on opposition grounds thru the season. However, it should be the more experienced Melton team that takes out the premiership.

VSDCA. North South Group. Grand Final. 26th & 27th March.

Caulfield vs. Malvern at Caulfield Park, Caulfield.
Rd. 02. Malvern 6/173 cc (Kalpage 72no, Walsh 2/39) lost to Caulfield 5/174 (Duane 56, Perera 1/20)

VSDCA. East West Group. Grand Final. 26th & 27th March.

Melton vs. Williamstown at MacPherson Park, Melton
Rd. 13. Williamstown 8/191 cc (Sheedy 53, Allen 3/36) lost to Melton 2/258 cc (Alexander 90no, Murdock 1/34)

Finals are funny things,we may see that tomorrow, who knows?
Caulfield[$1.70 v Malvern $2.10-The home sides superior batting should see them home,Richo in career best form.
Melton[$1.15 v Willy $6.00-As above, plus home ground advantage, impossible to go past the faves.
Funnier things have happened and all the pressure is on the Lions not having tasted defeat yet,who knows eh?
Hope all followers of our great comp can get along along over the weekend and witness some terrific cricket.
Best of luck!
