Victorian Premier Cricket 08/09

Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 08/09

The team is on the victorian cricket website. | Cricket Victoria

Big games this week.. The match of the round would be Footscray V Dandenong as its a must win game for the dogs.

If the rain keeps up tho, there is a big chance they may not get a start as the state of the ground is pretty bad as sand and dirt was laid during the week..

Warrick Todd thinks that selectors have got it wrong with the Twenty 20 squad. Although Finch is a good player, he is not in the same class as Neil Schlittler.

Big base Schlittler has a proven record when it comes to scoring runs fast with quick fire hundreds in all forms of limited overs cricket.

He should be on the tour, only question would be how he would handle the curries....

Thats a massive call.... Yes he is a very good 20/20 and one day player but not in the same class as Grant Lindsay who could have easilly got a start in the team if it was not for the selectors removing his contract at the start of last season...

Don't need a contract with the team to get a gig. Recent times Clint McKay when he lost it for a year, Pilon and Joseland, they all played without contracts and after someone plays three games, they get one written up on the spot.

Coming up Sunday 1pm to 3pm, on 97.7fm 3SER Casey Radio, Sunday Recovery will be interviewing current Test Star Peter Siddle (SMEE).

yeah thats true but its a lot harder to get a gig when ur not in the squad. But as we are the best 20/20 team in OZ, its always going to be hard to get in even if you are in the top 6 players that play 20/20 in premier cricket...

Other than schlittler and Lindsay, who else from premier cricket that is not contracted to the bushrangers could possibly get a game in front of the selected group????

Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 08/09

Steven Spoljaric is still getting decent scores with bat and ball and is current Ryder Medallist.

Neil Schlittler's Innings vs Dandenong was a gem (saw it first hand), lost count of the 4s & 6s. He scored 80% of the opening partnership.

Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 08/09

scott sanders could also be another one with a strike rate well above 100+ this season making runs and getting wickets???

Spoljaric has a great allround game. However he would have to train properly, go to team meetings, be on time and do the team thing - so that rules him out.

Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 08/09

You look over the past bit, and generally it's really been mostly pace bowlers who've come from outside the squad to play: McKay, Pattinson, Lindsay. That'd be obviously because of the attritional nature of the skill.

Maybe a Brad Knowles, if he is fully fit for a good period, or Marc Carson would be possibilities. Batting wise, the fact that Peter Dickson has played so many 2nd XI games in recent times would make him the obvious choice, but now there is a bit of a logjam of openers with the inclusion of Rogers, and he probably doesn't score quick enough to push for an OD game.

possibly mato from essendon

Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 08/09

dickson would be good if he could run between the wickets. i doubt spol would play, he wouldnt get a bowl in the vic side and would have to pile on the runs instead

Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 08/09

With Cam White, Darren Pattinson, Peter Siddle & Bryce McGain (when fit) sitting ready to go, there's no room for outsiders. The XI v Tasmania isn't doing too badly @ tea on day 3, and who of that XI is to make way?

OK, any rumours going around for the upcoming season of Premier cricket? I've heard Adam Dale to coach Melbourne, Graham Yallop to coach Hawthorn, Dempsey to Dandenong as a player.

Any others?

sturgess back to diamondcreek after he asked for 2 grand a game and was declined.

Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 08/09

OK, half the season is over. Who are the disappointments, who are the suprises? What will be the make up of the final 8?

I reckon:

CARLTON
GEELONG
MELBOURNE
STKILDA (surprise)
RINGWOOD
DANDENONG
PRAHRAN (surprise)
HAW/MON UNI
--------------
FOOTSCRAY (disappointing)
CAMBERWELL
MELB UNI (disappointing)
NORTHCOTE (surprise)

Forget the rest, thoughts?

Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 08/09

I think Prahran, hawthorn and st kilda will not be in the 8 at the end of the season. Footscray have been a major disappointment but with their win on the weekend lay 2 points outside the 8 with north melb and northcote being the last 2 games before christmas. Win those 2 and they will be close to the top 4 as the teams in the 8 play each other in the final 2 rounds.

Look for ringwood to go back to back.. they just look to strong....

Tip for grand final playoff is Ringwood V Dandenong

Any thoughts on who will play in the grand final this season???

Final 8 tips would be as follows:-

RINGWOOD
GEELONG
CARLTON
FOOTSCRAY
DANDENONG
MELBOURNE
CAMBERWELL
FITZ DONCASTER

Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 08/09

Just saw that Chris Benham has gone back to England. Weird...surely he was contracted. What is really going on at Monash? Anyone?
