Just saw that Chris Benham has gone back to England. Weird...surely he was contracted. What is really going on at Monash? Anyone?

Yeah he would have been contracted but would have had a clause in his contract that allowed him to go back home at any stage. Hampshire would have made sure that was in his contract..

This is the reason why clubs should not sign overseas players...

Surely not going as bad as Casey Sth Melbourne. Cannot make any runs at all.

Hawks off field are a shanbles but with Spoljaric, Dart and Sillence they have 3 of the best all rounders in the comp. Pity not many others get a go!

Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 08/09

Any suprises in the ladder so far?

Dandenong have dropped. A side that contains Donnell, Newman, Forsyth, Pattinson and Dempsey should not be sitting in 11th.

Fitzroy are probably the big suprise for me. Maxwell has been awesome, and with Mash out of favour for the Vics they have been the beneficiary.

Can anyone outside the top 3 win? I don't think so. Geelong are susceptible despite having a top 6 that is as good as any (Finch, Davies, Dean, Buchanan, Peake, Shanahan). Carlton are always thereabouts and have a great bowling lineup. And Ringwood look strong again.

Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 08/09

How is Young Joey Loorham going for Ringwood? Im from his home town, and down here he was described as the next big thing, just wanna know how his progress is going?

Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 08/09

Anyone heard of the impeding overthrow of the current regime at Hawthorn/Monash? I hear there is an entire cleanout on the way including President, Coach, commitee and professional players!!!!!!

Rams in command

The Rams were in a strong position against the Blues at stumps on the first day of the Premier Final at Melbourne Uni.

Carlton skipper Tim Welsford won the toss and batted, but the Blues lost Jake Hancock bowled by Drew McKay in the second over. It was Drew McKay's fourth over and the eighth of the day, however, in which he really inflicted most damage. With his second ball he had Michael Sheedy caught by Tom Stray at slip, with his fifth ball he bowled Nathan Pilon and, with his sixth, he trapped Evan Gulbis lbw.

Tim Buszard battled hard to try to resurrect the innings, occupying the crease for 229 minutes and 202 balls for his 62, but as wickets continued to fall at the other end, it was not until number eleven Chris Salm joined Buszard that the first significant partnership of the innings took place. Salm scored a valuable 30 not out and added 53 runs for the tenth wicket partnership, before leg-spinner Daniel King had Buszard caught behind by Joe Loorham cutting to end the innings for 159.

In reply, Ringwood went to stumps at 2/113, with David King (52no) and skipper Sean Flynn (18no) to resume tomorrow morning. After losing Daniel King early for a duck, Tom Stray helped David King take the score to 79 before nicking one to Nathan Pilon off Welsford for a polished 40.

Go the rams, the 2nds have a tough assignment ahead of them though but hopefully the firsts can finish Carlton off and win outright

Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 08/09

Well done to the Rams on back to back premierships. The Cricket Victoria Awards night is on Tuesday Night at Crown Palladium. Here is the article from the Premier Cricket Website:

Rams go back-to-back

Ringwood today won the VB Premier Final with a seven-wicket outright win over Carlton at Melbourne University. It was the first outright win in a Final since St Kilda defeated Essendon at the Albert Ground eight years ago.

Carlton resumed this morning on 4/80, but when Nathan Pilon was out to the second ball of the day and Tim Welsford followed in the next over, the match looked to be heading towards a finish by lunch. But Tim Ludeman (51) and Andrew Dickinson (54) combined for a 91-run seventh wicket stand, which saw the Blues through to 206, an overall lead of 101.

The early run out of Daniel King sent some tremors through Ringwood. David King (26) and Tom Stray (21no) looked untroubled until a second run out, David King backing up couldn't beat an Evan Gulbis deflection from short mid-off and it was 2/40. Sean Flynn (35) took the total to 84 before Nick Austin trapped him lbw, but there to be no fairy-tale finishes for the Blues as Stray and Brendan Walsh (17no) saw the Rams safely home.

It was Ringwood's second successive premiership after the breakthrough first win over the Cats last year. The Rams' Steve Gilmour was adjudged the John Scholes Medallist for his six wickets for the match, taking him to 46 wickets for the season - the most in the competition.

Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 08/09

Rumour has that some Premier clubs are attempting to get rid of the 4th XI competition, and also the 3rd XI. I know this issue has com up before, but with the drought and rising costs involved with curating a turf wicket, a couple of clubs are keen on the idea.

Where did you hear that from?

Is there a high chance of it happening? Or are they only in discussions?

they are looking at better ways of developing young players, like an under age grade or something! not sure how far in the development of this they are though! some clubs have 5ths in local comps and it works well
