Couldn't see him playing as a keeper in front of Paine. His best bet would be going to NSW to try and take the gloves off 'fatty' Smith.

Maybe I've caught him playing bad games but that dude is a crap keeper from what I've seen.

Looks a pretty average keeper to me to.

Whats wrong with Hartley? Hes hardly been mentioned. he has really lifted his batting over the past couple of seasons and is great with the gloves (obviously).

He's also a Queenslander, all the more reason to select him.

Very debatable. All I've seen is Ford Ranger cup but I've seen some horrible performances by Hartley.

fair enough. I havent managed to follow this last state season very well, but the times that i have seen him play I thought he was pretty good. I didnt really notice him when he was keeping, which is a good sign. if you don't notice your keeper then hes obviously not stuffing up.

That's very true. If you see a keeper 20 times and he's been immaculate in 18 of them, it's the two bad performances that get remembered.

Re: Who would be favoured to be Australia's no.2 keeper now?

Especially if those bad performances were dropped catches.

Maybe I should try and follow some other state side beside my beloved Queensland and occasionally WA (especially now that Johnson is over there). that way i have something to compare against. other than that i have no idea why i am arguing the point.

Re: Who would be favoured to be Australia's no.2 keeper now?

they all keep for their state so they"re all good keepers, id be picking the best batsman out of the group, whoever that is ? there are rumours doing the traps (SA) that boucher is on the way out (sooner rather than later) and deviliers is taking the gloves, if he"s capable then that would give them a massive edge, with kallis in the team they could play 8 batsman, but they would probably play albie morkal at no8, and maybe khan at 7 if suited, scary thought.

De Villiers doesn't want the gloves at the moment, wants to focus more on his batting. Can't see them ousting Boucher anytime soon.

word has it if ashwell prince was captain boucher would allready be gone, your right about him not wanting the gloves, he wants to work on being the worlds premier batsman, but if he"s a patriot he"ll do whats best for the team, as i said, its just a rumour i heard on the radio whilst listening to the 3rd test, and they do have to make shit up to keep their lips moving at times lol, it is an interesting proposition for them though. i think they mentioned they would like to see him keep in the T/20 world cup.

Will Keep in the T20. ODi's might be thought later down the track. Test Matches, I feel A.B will become the best top 4 bat before taking up the gloves. plus he's magic in the field, why sacrifice this?

well i suppose you would know lol. your right he is an awesome fielder, but still if handles himself well in the T/20s he may have a new job.

for some reason i can just picture him in an Australian uniform with the gloves on, scary.

Not sure if I want this. I heard he's playing on too, on the county scene. off to Derbyshire. good pick up.

Can't see what Boucher's done wrong to be the sights of a few people. His series at home was poor but other than that he's been okay. I haven't seen him make any misfields or fumble any catches for some time.

I still think Ronchi is Australia's number two keeper. The others haven't done enough to be considered nor have they overtaken Ronchi as the number two keeper. Paine had a big chance this year to go past Ronchi whilst his form was down but he couldn't. Hartley is a good keeper but is only finding his spot with the bat over the last season or so, Hartley used to bat at 9/10 for Queensland early in his career so he's still a little green to the middle order role.

Crosthwaite is rubbish, Wade has only had a handful of games at domestic level and it's still too early to tell whether he'll be good enough. Manou's been around for ages but has only run into form over the last couple of seasons. Perhaps another solid season from Manou would see him really contend for a spot. Haddin is averaging just over 2 byes per 100 opposition runs which doesn't seem a lot but the Irongloves duo of Matt Prior and Geraint Jones are close to three so he isn't all that far away. His keeping also seems to have dipped a little also and if he starts to fail with the bat, his spot might be in danger.

Re: Who would be favoured to be Australia's no.2 keeper now?

Boucher is a quality keeper - best in the world IMO - and a reliable bat. He's an old-school keeper - I think he gets a bad rap for not averaging over 35 as seems to be the requirement these days.

Re: Who would be favoured to be Australia's no.2 keeper now?

who will go down as as most value to the Australian team, healy or gilchrist ?, healy was the better keeper but gilchrist was capable with the gloves and a much better batsman so ill go for gilchrist everyday of the week, and if devilliers was capable id get rid of boucher for sure, only if he was capable though.

Re: Who would be favoured to be Australia's no.2 keeper now?

DeVilliers is not Gilchrist. There are few if any specialist batsmen who keep as well as Gilchrist did, and while he wasn't the greatest ever his abilities are severely underrated. We don't know how lucky we were.

I think keeping is underrated as a skill. At typically 3-4 each, the leg byes quickly add up if you don't have a dynamic player behind the stumps - and that's worth a fair few off the bat.
