Why do we need a bowl-off?

with the exception of a final perhaps...

A tie is as exciting as it comes, close action, exciting finish, two-teams unable to be split. Yet, it's been decided we need to have a winner.

Why oh why?

What a farcical ending to a match. Why not just get the two fastest players from each team and make them have a race from one end of the field to the other...it's exactly the same thing.

Re: Why do we need a bowl-off?

i would have thought wickets lost come the finals.

but in a group game?

they're kidding right?

we do it here in Adelaide too for our grade cricket competition too, and it's pathetic

Re: Why do we need a bowl-off?

I'm not really a fan. I don't see why we need it for any type of cricket game. Kind of "Americanizes" the sport with their constant need for sports that have either a winner or a loser (i.e overtime in basketball and NHL, extra innings in baseball).

Not required in my opinion.

Cricket's been "Americanizing" itself for decades, and its made cricket a
better game. So live with it. No need for "bowl off," "wickets lost" or any other
BS arrangement. Just do what my American friends and I do in our
matches: if its a tie we go into "extra innings": each team bats for two
extra overs or two wickets whichever comes first. The game's decided on
the field of play with massive excitement. Yank ingenuity: ain't it great!

How about no?

I'll stick with my ties thanks. If two teams can't be seperated after the completion of a game it deserves to be called a tie. @|

Why don't you ask the fans who pay their hard-earned money to come
to a match and see....no result.

Re: Why do we need a bowl-off?

a very american point of view in that comment

a tie is a result.

the only "no result" you get in cricket is if the match is rained out

Re: Why do we need a bowl-off?

Tied or drawn games are fantastic. The tension can be felt in the crowd as the end draws near. Its a lot better than a one sided result, even if your team is the one winning.

There was a result, it was a tie. @|

Ya want tie-breakers go play basketball.

As many, many, more than cricket do, 'cause they know there'll be a result.

Re: Why do we need a bowl-off?

Tie-breakers aren't for cricket. (I'm a mod so I shouldn't say this, but I'm going to anyway) Timmy, go and stick it up your arse, the game aint gonna change for you.

Go to the MCG on Boxing Day mate. Sold out for the first day of the Boxing Day Test Match. That's 100,000 people. Some of the basketball teams in Australia might be lucky to have 100,000 people show up for a season.

Would those 100K still be around on the last day when a boring, lethargic,
draw was certain?

Melbourne is a passionate sporting city. Last year's Boxing Day Test was sold out for the first three days. That's 300,000 people.

What about a different type of draw? The one where a team needs one wicket to win with one ball left in the day and the batsman blocks the ball out to earn a draw. Is that boring?

Australians will go watch Australia play cricket regardless of the state of the game.

Re: Why do we need a bowl-off?

Just watched the YouTube of the India - Pakistan "bowl-off". I can't believe the way Pakistan approached it, why would you not bowl the way you normally bowl?

A parable: Two runners decide to run a race but it has to be finished by 6 0'clock. Runner A takes a 100 yard, 200 yard, lead but three feet from
the finish line the clock strikes 6. Race drawn! No winner, no loser! BS
