So The Ashes are on again with back to back series. England won 3-0 at home but that result them as the series was a lot closer than what the scoreline suggests. Both teams played good cricket but England proved to be superior in the pressure moments and got the job done in the end.

Now the return series is upon us With the tour already underway. Australia took some consolation from the away series and will be confident that they can match England at every opportunity.

We've almost finished the first game with the WA Chairman's XI (WA Second XI) taking on England in a three day first-class game. The Chairman's Xi dominated day one, smacking the English attack to all parts of the WACA as they piled on 4/369 on day one. It was more of the same on day two before the Chairman's XI declared at 5/451. England then had their turn to bat and at stumps on day two reached 2/270 to exact some revenge on the Chairman's XI attack.

Stumps - Day 2

Western Australia Chairman's XI 5d/451

Chris Lynn 104
Luke Towers 77
Marcus Harris 69
Ashton Turner 62*
Mitch Marsh 58
Jim Allenby 53

England XI 2/270

Michael Carberry 78
Ian Bell 77*
Jonathan Trott 62*

Well that was exciting.. England finish day 1 against Australia A 0/318 Cook and Carberry both going past 150. Probably shouldn't be that surprised given the bowling attack, AusA only playing 2 genuine quicks plus Holland and Henriques.

So Australia's squad of 12 for Brisbane is Warner, Rogers, Watson, Clarke, Smith, Bailey, Haddin, Johnson, Siddle, Harris, Lyon, Faulkner. No surprises at all there.

I wonder who England are going to open with? Carberry or Root? I'd say Root looks better down the order (stats back it up too) but I think Carberry will struggle opening in Australia.

Don't know much about Carberry but the word seems to be that they will go with him, would personally like to see Root open as he looks vulnerable early on.

Sounds like there is a decent chance of some variable weather in Brisbane towards the end of the week, hope it doesn't interfere with the game too much.

yeah, um...

Well the forecast has gotten a bit better for the five days. Won't see any rain on Thursday and probably not Friday either although a late shower is predicted on Friday but that is more than likely to be after play finishes. Saturday has isolated showers and thunderstorms with Sunday expected to have scattered showers and thunderstorms. Monday should be a shower or two.

So I doubt much play will happen Sunday with Saturday not looking all that flash either. Seems the start of the test will be crucial going into the inclement weather in the final three days.

Although losing Rogers for just 1 a good toss to win for Australia, looks very good for batting out there.

What an appalling mess of a day. Yet again the runs are made by those that are not there to make runs and unfortunately will probably not do the job they are there to do very well either. Warner was no different to normal throwing away a start, Watson was a joke, Clarke must be injured still, Smith also threw away a start and Bailey to first game yipps with the red ball. If this lack of discipline is what we are to face this summer then it shall be long and hard. Wonder if the whipping boy Lyon will get dropped if he does not get 8 wickets to compensate for all the selectors favourites that have under performed again.

Well that partnership averted disaster on the first day but still a big disappointment, most of the wickets falling to pretty ordinary shots. Must be incredibly frustrating for the bowlers watching the batsmen fail to do their job so regularly.

Australia doing well with Harris getting Cook and Johnson picking up Trott before lunch. Carberry has looked pretty solid so far.
