Oz/Kiwi Sport

Greatest benefit Pete is learning how to master the same conditions that our biggest enemy thrives in. So we can whip their arses when we tour there. Trouble is not nearly the required players learn these skills.. reason we Aussies have had our arses whipped playing in Pommieland since 2001.

Yeah, not enough Aussie or Kiwi players play regularly in their conditions to feel really comfortable... the duke ball they use tends to swing a lot though so that suits blokes like Boult, Southee & Jamieson, going to be a very interesting series.
1st session in each test against the Poms starts at {10pm NZT} so that's ok, but the other two sessions are early in the bloody morning, anyway, can post daily video highlights & scoreboards of the tests.

That is great mate. Always a pain catching Pom matches live.. have to be a nite owl. Fox may take the live telecast feed which will mean it will be replayed. Yes that threesome of yours will be very potent in Pom conditions. Pity we rarely pick specialist seamers for the Ashes.. last one if memory serves was Terry Alderman back in the 80s. The one before him was Bob Massie in the 70s.. took 18 sticks in one match. Still a Ashes record I understand.

Hope Fox have coverage of the tests Craig - I Remember Alderman well, was a very good pace bowler... what an incredible effort by Massie knocking the timber over 18 times in one test, reckon that record will never be broken, don't remember the bloke though mate, how many tests did he play for Aussie ?

Very few surprisingly Pete. A one series wonder as it turned out. Shows you that swing merchants dont perform all that well in our conditions.

That's amazing mate with the record he had - I reckon swing is a great weapon to have on the flatter tracks as you're not going to get much movement off the wicket, so if a pace bowler can get late swing in the air he's going to be very dangerous... the swing kings Akram & Younis were basically unplayable on any type of wicket at their peak, the pitch didn't even come into it.
I mentioned Matt Henry as a very average Test pace bowler because he has stuff all in his bowling armoury, he just basically bowls line & length, he played most of his 13 Tests in NZ with a very crappy average of 51... but in English conditions where the wickets seam much more than in Australasia he'll probably go really well over there.

The BC attack is imo equal to the Pom attack while I prefer the BC batting.. more experience. Poms have a relatively new batting lineup and doubt if they have faced true quality swing bowling at this level. Only advantage is the Pommies are at home. I see the the series being a very close affair

Yeah, should be a pretty tight series Craig... both sides could be missing half their incumbents though because of that idiotic IPL.

Getting excited about the upcoming Pom tour Pete? You know what should have happened re the WTC.. the semi finalists should have had a play off to determine third and fourth, like they do with other sports. That'd mean the BGs being involved instead of sitting at home twiddling their thumbs or panicking in Covid ravaged India waiting for a return flite home. Just as I write reading that three of our blokes .. Zampa, K Richo and Tye have already hopped a plane for home. Madness that our cricketers, yours and others were ever permitted to play in the IPL.

Really looking forward to the tour Craig :thumbsu: ...not the early morning sessions though.
Totally agree mate, there should've been a play-off for 3rd & 4th spots - need to be playing as much sport as possible, Covid has definitely ruined a lot of sports events worldwide, but the main priority has to be the safety of people.
Talking about the Safety of people it's bloody insane that with the big outbreak of Covid in India those idiots that run the IPL are still going to continue the comp... just reinforces how greedy these pillocks are.

Pointless as stadiums are empty so getting no revenue from fans. Reckon the IPL bosses will run at a loss this year which may force them to cut the obscene pay packets they use to lure our cricketers every year. I wont be staying up to watch the entire Tests. Catch what I missed in hilites the following day.

They make a ton of money from tv rights though.

I'm only going to watch the 1st session live on each day of the tests... just too difficult & exhausting to stay up & watch the last two sessions in the early hours.

Don't know if you've heard Craig but find it bloody ridiculous that our coach is allowing Boult to return home while the rest of our IPL Test players travel to England... so Boult will probably miss both Pommy Tests, which means he wouldn't have had any red ball cricket going into the final, instead only played that IPL crap.
With us playing those Tests in English conditions using the duke ball it has to give us a good advantage over India in the final.

Why is Trent the only player returning Pete. Family reasons? Madness that he will be underdone for the WTC final. This was a good chance to pit the two best swingmen of the modern era against each other in Pommie conditions. With him back on deck for the final I have you favorites to topple India mate.

Mate, he's only going home because he misses his family, be different if someone in his family was crook... Boult's taking a big risk of missing the final too, only needs to be an outbreak in NZ etc & he won't be able to travel to England.
Yeah, the English preparation should give us the edge over India.
