Pakistan vs Australia March-April 2022

All out 148. We have em by the throat so why didn't we enforce it. Still matters little as we are driving this match.

Carey's timely knock must have silenced some of his detractors. Unlucky not to make a century. Starc did a good job by staying with him and allbut ensuring we will not have to bat a second time.

Carey batted very well and was unlucky not to get his century. His innings will keep the critics at bay for a while as it ensured Australia got to a position of strength in the game.

This is mahem by our quicks. Swinging it both ways. Pakistan bats have no answer. Will teach the PCB to prepare grassless, abrasive tracks.

6/80 after 31.

The bowling unit was exceptional. Starc was pretty good today, his ability to utilise reverse swing plus his raw pace proved a handful for Pakistan as did the other quicks as well.

Just watching him and picking up the last wicket he has some potential.

Swepson bowled fairly decently I thought. He is certainly the first option behind Lyon, also helps that he is a leg spinner as well and offers a point of difference.

I imagine that would be due to wanting to give the bowlers a rest. While the bowling unit only bowled 53 overs, it is hot and they will still need to take another 10 wickets later on so giving them as much rest as possible isn't a bad idea. I imagine they are also keeping in mind the third test as well which could prevent similar conditions. We've seen what happened with Pakistan who spent just over two days in the field, batted for less than two sessions and are now bowling again going at 4.76 runs per over.

Australia finish day three at 1/81 from 17 overs. Warner was dismissed for seven caught in the gully off Hasan Ali but Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne have progressed things quite quickly with Labuschagne going at very close to a run a ball.

The lead is 489 runs currently with Australia looking to press on. I imagine there will be a declaration sometime in the middle session tomorrow.

Read a lot of negative articles writing off Australia for batting again.
Sure there is enough runs but pakistan did the same to us in the first test.
Let them deal with the same treatment.

My point about not enforcing follow on is when you have your foot on the throat you dont removed it. Pakistan were shell shocked and totally demoralised. In for the kill in that case. Seems enforcing the follow on is going out of business these days. On the other hand this track will deteriorate further the match goes. Already the cracks are widening.. one hit a crack to give Starc one of his wickets and the crease area has more loose earth.. with the odd puff of dust coming up from the spinning ball.

Geez it's such a no issue imo.

Cummins knows his own team and what he is doing so I'm happy to run with that.

After watching close hand some of the most potent reverse swing from our three frontliners what do the Pak quicks do.. not pitch it up to induce swing like we did but bowl half trackers and full balls to give us another 81 to add to our score.

While our spin play is evolving into something nearing competent there are still some blokes that play from the crease too often.. with little footwork to put the bowler off his length. Improvement needed from these blokes before we tour Sri Lanka, where we have been woeful against spin in the past.

He does and is doing a terrific job since taking over the reins from Paine. He said we batted again to rest our quicks. Fair 'nuff.. it was hot and we need them fresh for the final assault tomorrow.

Australia declared at 2/97 after Labuschagne was dismissed in the morning session, quite a bit earlier than most were expecting.

Pakistan have batted very well in reply, reaching 2/192 at stumps, still needing 314 more runs for victory. Pakistan found themselves 2/21 inside the first hour but Babar Azam's 102 not out and Abdullah Shafique's unbeaten 71 steered them to safety on the fourth day.

A big last day coming with all four results in play. The pitch is still relatively decent at this stage although you would expect it to deteriorate a little more on the last day.

You have to be over 200 runs ahead to enforce it

Deteriorating with cracks widening the longer the sun beats down on them. If they cant find swing then best bet is to target those cracks and hope for some deviation. Spinners need to utilise the bowler's footmarks as there is little turn or bounce

Pakistan finish day on 7/493 with the match ending in a draw after batting a remarkable 171.4 overs. Babar Azam batted brilliantly for his 196 earning himself the Player of the Match award, Mohammed Rizman ensured Pakistan made it to safety at the end of the day with 104 not out while Abdullah Shafique was out for 96 after another good innings. Nathan Lyon claimed 4/112 from 55 overs to lead Australia's attack while Pat Cummins snared 2/75 in what was a good showing on a wicket that was still fairly flat on the last day.

Realistically, Australia did enough to win the game but several dropped catches hurt their cause, had they held them it is fairly likely they would have won, as the old saying goes, "catches win matches". There will also be talk about not enforcing the follow-on as that would have meant Pakistan would need to bat for at least another 22 overs but given the dropped chances, that may not be a big issue as there were enough opportunities presented.

So the series heads to Lahore at 0-0 with one test to play with that match to get underway on Monday.

" a late flurry of Nathan Lyon wickets" Actually too little too late. Those two dropped chances off Swepson hurt us too as did the other spills.. specially Smith's early Shafique sitter. IMO Aussie fielding has never been the same since American Mike Young was our fielding coach. CA had a gem there and let him go.

What a captain's knock by Babar. But he needed support to save that game and had it from Shafique and Rizwan. All three showed belief, resilience, tho it must be said, on pitches they know very well.
This was another bat fest so the ICC should again condemn the pitch. The only time the bowlers were actually in the match was in a mere two sessions when the Aussie pacemen had a potent Dukes reverse swinging crazily.

I blame the pitch for that

The three ODI's and T20 match scheduled for Rawalpindi have been moved to Lahore due to political issues within Pakistan. The current Prime Minister and former cricketer Imran Khan faces a no-confidence vote in parliament next week and both the ruling and opposition parties look set to bring scores of people to Islamabad which is near Rawalpindi.

The final test of the series gets underway at Lahore on Monday.
