It's a pity Roach isn't there plus no Gayle may keep the crowds away. From what I saw of the WI lacklustre tour of India was a prtotype Ambrose in the form of Jason Holder, if he can achieve half of what Curtley did he'll be pretty good.

For NZ is B McCullum's injury a blessing in disguise? Who will captain the test side if Williamson doesn't make it back? Will a WI demolition job see the end of Hesson?

Yes but Gayle should be playing in the shorter stuff if he's recovered by then. Agree on Holder. He looked impressive with the bat as well.

McCullum should be playing. He's playing in the NZ eleven atm.

was reading recently that the last time the WI were beaten before their great run of series victories that lasted 15 years until Aus beat them in 95 was NZ beating them in 1980. Go Blackcaps.

A bit pointless indeed haha. I'm not sure why they didn't wait until after the ODI series with India.
India has really forced NZC's hand with this West Indies series on both ends: holding up the West Indies before the series, and bringing India's NZ tour forward -- so that they can play in the Asia Cup in February -- to curtail the West Indies' tour.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this series and having radio commentary that I can actually stream without rights issues.

One could argue that he perhaps shouldn't have played that shot so close to lunch, despite doing so successfully before, but anyway. Looking forward to being able to see that catch when it inevitably appears on Youtube.

And Best gets Redmond.

Stretch Fulton would have to be one of the most boring batsmen in world cricket.

The funny thing is. I've seen some pretty aggressive innings from Fulton for Canterbury.

Fulton has a habit of playing himself in a whole when he gets into the 30's.

A shame about Redmond. An unlikely way to get out.

Darren Sammy missed a huge trick not taking the new ball at the 80th over, when both B-Mac and Taylor were in the 80s. It might have been even better two overs later, when they were on 92 and 89. The West Indies might be missing Fidel Edwards, Jerome Taylor, and Kemar Roach, but Best and Gabriel were doing enough with the second new ball to make you wonder what might have been if they had taken it just a couple of overs earlier. Still, for Baz to get his first century in three years and 46 innings is massively significant for him and New Zealand cricket. Good on both him and Ross.

Good on McCullum but another century against a B Grade attack on a flat pitch? Hopefully his back is OK and this is the start of some real form but this effort needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

Sammy's another captain who should really have his position in question, the team is understrength, flat and he doesn't look like he's adding anything.

You know you are desperate when someone is just in a Test side let alone being captain.

And Taylor gets his 200..
