Eca

Looking at the 12 team ladders we generally find 3 or 4 teams "tailed off". It's time for the ECA to dust off its plan to introduce 8 team grades. Play 14 matches, 7*1 day and 7*2 day which involves 1 more day of cricket which could be easily found. If not, then 8 and 6. Make the 1 dayers 45 or 50 overs. Its not as if we don't have enough sunlight.

Hard to see ECA not calling off Saturday afternoon games. It is forecast for 40 degrees. I can't see a game being stopped once play has commenced. They have a written policy which they need to enforce. I would not like to be on the ECA executive if the games went ahead and an umpire suffered a heat stroke. Hope the ECA have their directors and officers insurance paid up.

All called off - hasn't times changed. I remember one year in the mid 90's where we played in 43 degrees on the Saturday and then had a catch up one day game on the Sunday where it hit 44 degrees. I was lucky/unlucky enough to bat a long time that weekend and lost 7kgs over the 2 days - and I didn't need to lose it.....unlike now where I would love to lose that and some!

With the prospect of rain this weekend it looks as though those already in the 4 can breathe easy - it'll probably stay unchanged now.

Showers clearing generally means play gets on so wouldn't go calling off this Saturday just yet. Careful going too early with big statements as they can back fire.

From memory earlier this season someone from Glen Iris said that Old Carey were the most mentally weak side they had ever played. Could of settled that debate in the T20 Final but Rob Cooper and Ashburton put paid to that, while Old Carey held their nerve for a 2 run win over STC (who have done well in the T20 since it began).

Four semi final losses in four seasons for GI now. Apparently Grubich's batting average in semi finals is now below single figures.

I haven't played against Old Carey in a long time so I cant really comment on them being 'mentally weak'... But I wouldn't read too much into T20 performances as that comps a joke, most clubs don't play full strength teams and even if they do I doubt many take it seriously..

What are peoples thoughts on playing just 50 over cricket. Proper fielding restrictions, play everyone twice. I think only a few clubs boast home ground advantage, so I believe it will show who the better teams are.

Clubs might be able to recruit/retain some of their stronger players. Encourage more club sponsors to get invloved. Could become a spectacle in Victorian local cricket.

You've got my vote mayor. Love the white ball. So much easier to see than the red ball with no site screens and lots of background trees. Given the form I'm in I think I've got red-green colour blindness.

Looks like the Top 4 is set I would think with just the order of 2-4 to take care of itself.
North Patel knocked off Heathmont in a mini final. With Patel and Morris both performing NB just got home it seems. Can he carry them through the finals??
What happened to Ashy...my tip of a month ago have fallen apart.
Barring a miracle Surrey to go down again and GI to go down and play their 2s!
I'm calling a Bull v Haw and Deep v NB SF's.
If it's a Bull v NB GF it will be interesting to see the last 2 A turf Premiers play one another and NB are the only team to beat Bulleen this season...

Hawthorn have a poor percentage and could still drop out if they lose and Mulgrave win. Same as Heathmont who have a slightly better percentage.

And with a two day game there is always a chance of an outright.

At Christmas Marcellin OC were without a win were odds on to be relegated but three consecutive wins and they will stay up. Good to have them in the top grade as one of the better grounds.

Will be an interesting last round before Finals.

I'll be backing Hawks to take care of Glen Iris and unless Bulleen put some of their players in cotton wool like Freo did against the Saints I would expect them to take care of Heathmont. The interesting one is Mulg...How much would they need to beat NB by to leap frog NB...They will have to bowl first and try and force a potential outright too or at least a crushing victory.

Big tick for 50 over cricket! But oh god not the white ball, barley swings and is all scuffed up by the 10th over!

Unbelievable that Skevies have been relegated with that team. On paper it is a top 6 side. Just shows that the paper doesn't play!
Skevs season is always a rollercoaster. From memory they were relegated after a Dunstan flag.
Just back from working OS and see money and Poms don't buy you happiness or a final place.
Big scare for GI. Maybe we will have ED and Burwood in Dunstan next year. Though not sure on results which Canterbury or Burwood team will turn up. Do Canterbury have the oldest player in Ist eleven ECA turf teams.
Watched a bit of Balwyn v Kew on Saturday. Apart from Balwyn dropping 6 catches standard of cricket was high with lots of young players on both sides. It was really good to see 2 umpires perform so well and wish we had umpires who were that good. No cheap LBWs, no fuss, no egos and top decisions, so refreshing!!!!
Balwyn ground was like a bowling green. Probably look in on Stradbroke on Sat for a bit. Will be interesting weekend without weather issues.

Ouch! I thought after last round that Skevs dropped below GI.
It is amazing the ups and downs when you use imported players. If good you get success. They go home you are not as competitive. Would like to see clubs worked harder at home. As cost to turf clubs grow as councils seek to recover more of the cost, only the well to do clubs will be able to pay for the imports.
