Australia in South Africa

Re: Australia in South Africa

Pretty bad effort by Australia on day one. Majority of the bowlers took some punishment with McGain having a Jason Krejza-esque tour match. Hilfenhaus and Siddle were probably the best out of the quick bowlers whilst McDonald and North did well as the part-time options. Some sloppy fielding didn't help with North dropping Khan on nine. Not sure what Australia's thinking was deciding to bowl first but the pitch looks to be a road judging by what the President's side achieved. Perhaps Ponting and the selectors are focused on who they want to pick as the bowling line-up for the first test as well as who will take that number six spot.

The Board President's XI looked the goods with a range of players impressing with the bat. South Africa looks to have some talent that runs pretty deep which looks promising for the future.

South African Board President's XI First Innings 5/393 (91 overs)

Kahn 100
Kuhn 95*
van Jaarsveld 49
Bodi 48
Wiese 45*

McGain 2/126

Re: Australia in South Africa

must be a road because australia have rocketed to 1/208 after 48 overs with katfish on 94 and ponting on 86.... shame hughes went after a bright start

hilf was the pick of the bowlers by the looks of it but bollinger also bowled well on the second morning.... they might play 4 pacemen and north at 6.

Im pretty sure katfish is James Hopes, Simon Katich is simply Kat.

South Africa President's Board XI First Innings 7dec/403

Khan 100

Wiese 50*
van Jaarsveld 49
Bodi 48

Hilfenhaus 2/64
McGain 2/126

Australians First Innings 2/283

Katich 124 retired hurt
Ponting 93

Ponting given out caught at slip after the ball ballooned of his pad. North and McDonald are in now, seemingly batting for the number six spot you'd think. Imran Tahir, the spinner has fared similar to McGain, going for more than six an over. His only wicket was that of Ponting.

Re: Australia in South Africa

McDonald is out plumb LBW to Tahir for 23.

3/317, North on on 34, Haddin 10.

Re: Australia in South Africa

North gets 50 with a four off Mbhalati. Took him 103 balls with 8 fours.

3/348, only two overs left today. North on 52, Haddin 23.

McGain still yet to bowl in the second innings with North preferred at the moment. Board XI only lead by 164 runs and there's still 59 overs left today so a result may be possible.

Re: Australia in South Africa

I'm happy with a four man pace attack with the help of Clarke (provided his back is ok) and North (if he gets a game)

Re: Australia in South Africa

He'd better now. Going at 6+ but unlike McGain has taken 4fa to go with his 50 not out. Wow, good stuff from the part timer.

Re: Australia in South Africa

Has five now, Board XI going for everything.

8/177, lead is 220.

Re: Australia in South Africa

Anyone know the extent of Katich's injury, if it is one? Did he just cop one and retire because he can or is he actually in doubt or something?

Re: Australia in South Africa

McGain and Siddle have food related Gastro. hence the non-appearance in the 2nd innings.

Great stuff from north though.. selectors with a few thoughts. might depend on the pitch at Jo'burg. they usually turn out green tops first up from what i recall
