Sheffield Shield Thread 2009/2010

Re: Ford Ranger Cup Thread 2009/2010

Hopes is even worse at this long format. 5fas are so overrated these days.

:p

Re: Ford Ranger Cup Thread 2009/2010

Played like a true allrounder, takes wickets so cant make runs

Then again it must have been a pretty poor pitch for Hopes to get 5 wickets, it seems QLDs batting isnt their biggest concern

Dominate is a bit strong eddie, Victoria have already lost Rogers in reply and are only leading by 150, anything under 300 is gettable so this game is not over yet.

I think they will take 150 from here, 6/26 now 7/46 and still in a world of hurt.

Sounds as though the ball is swinging a considerable way.

Re: Ford Ranger Cup Thread 2009/2010

Vics crumbled to be all out for 104, John Hastings made 49 after coming in when Victoria were a horrendous 7/33. Feldman, Hopes and Swan all took three wickets for Queensland.

In reply, Queensland are 3/68, chasing 251 to win. McKay, Hastings and Pattinson have a wicket each. Lee Carseldine has top score with 19 not out.

90 minutes left in the day's play.

Re: Ford Ranger Cup Thread 2009/2010

GO THE BULLS!!!!!

The bulls always fight and I have a feeling this game will go down to the wire, Queensland are favourites IMO, they bat all the way down to Cutting and only 180 needed.

So the pitch is going to turn into a minefield to allow QLD to bowl out Victoria for only 150 and then flatten out so QLD can double their first innings score to win?

Nice bit of optimism there :)

Interesting to see the pitch is apparently slow and crap, the sort of pitch that is often criticised elsewhere, the curators must of got scared off his usual pitch when he saw the way the Victorian batsmen dominated the Ford Ranger Cup clash

Well, at least the Vics made triple figures:eek:. And by the way, you were off by 46 runs :D:D

Re: Ford Ranger Cup Thread 2009/2010

Cuting goes BANG!!!

6 down the ground, Bulls have 3 wickets in hand with 100 odd to get but Hartley and Cutting have been hitting out.

This could get interesting if these guys keep going the tonk, that target will come down quickly.

Eddie is not sitting easy.

Re: Ford Ranger Cup Thread 2009/2010

77 runs with 2 wickets remaining on the last day. With Hartley in you would think it's possible, but with Swann not being the greatest ever and Feldman who hasn't much experience behind him it is 50/50 at this point.

As I said, the pitch wouldnt be easy for batting if QLD could roll Victoria cheaply, the decision to give up the best batting conditions of the game could be the difference in the end

Obviously Simpson was scared by the fact that Victoria love chasing but thats usually on wickets where it doesnt turn to shit

Re: Ford Ranger Cup Thread 2009/2010

Queensland bowled first because they needed the outright win, might as well get the 10 wickets first up and give yourself more time to get the 20 wickets.

Bulls to win this one IMO.

1 wicket or 17 runs currently required.

Victorias total domination of QLD in all forms especially at the GABBA continues this week with QLD 9/161 in pursuit of Victorias first innings total of 316

It seems ever since Cameron White smashed that century to lead Victoria to their first win at the GABBA a few years back we totally dominate every time we go up there now

As long as Victoria doesnt throw this away, they will go a minimum of 10 points clear at the top of the Shield table and just 2 games remain, get the outright and the home final is officially locked in

... Why do you have to make these statements prematurely, Eddie?:(

Against a sub-standard Qld team, our back-up XI has proven to be even more sub-standard. Whilst our 2nd-string bowlers have kept our noses in front throughout the season, the replacement batsmen have disappointed.

This is another argument for "giving the young talent a go" a-la Klinger, Peake, Dart, etc. Mash, after 27 games has done nothing and averages 25. If he's got anything to offer, he should have showed it by now. Hill on debut can't be criticised too heavily, but for a "batsman" to come in at No.7 & 8 respectively during the match, I would ask "WHY"?

Perhaps a few people are guilty of getting ahead of themselves!?!

Good point Sober Symonds!

Not sure how old Evan Gulbis is from Carlton but he has scored plenty in Grade Cricket. Tom Stray is also having another good season.

Fact is Mash is 28 and has had ample oppurtunities. I would prefer to see Hill or Finch go to 3 and then someone like Stray/Gulbis come into the middle/lower order. Carters/Forsyth both keeper/batsmen, have also scored heavily in Grade Cricket and are also quite young.

NOTE: Gulbis is apart of the U23 side so would still be quite young.

All the Vic U23 Batting Stats are here

Ah, the Bulls won.

A great victory, and great leadership from Simpson to bowl first. An inspired move.

The mighty bulls are victorious.

Where is eddie?

Wouldn't have mattered who won. A good close game. Entertaining stuff when it comes down to the wire like that.
